Have been looking into Southern Grind's Bad Monkey folder by Zac Brown(of the Zac Brown band). Very good looking knives. The steel is 14c28n Sandvik and it also has good looking carbon fiber scales. Just wondering if anybody has any experience with Southern Grind? Good or bad. Thanks guys.

My current favorite knife. Good in the hand and the carbon fiber and Ti liners make it light. Opens smooth with the stud or Wave. Only thing I don't like is the stubby pocket clip. Some Kershaw clips fit I just haven't swapped it yet. The fit and finish is perfect.

I am on the fence about this knife. I dig the CF scales, and the dual Ti liners. I like the under 5oz. weight for a good size knife from what the specs say. Only thing is, I really don't like 14C28N steel. It's not terrible or anything, but I think this same knife in CPM154 or S30V or heck BG-42 would be a great knife but $180 for 14C28N can kiss my #$% in the sand. Haha, get it? I am here all week.

I will give 14C28N one thing, though. It takes a stupid keen edge, up there with just about anything it seems.

Yea, it's not some super duper fancy steel but be honest- not many people need or would notice the difference. It does take a wicked sharp edge and is easy to maintain. For me, the design of the knife and the flawless execution of it make it worth while. Maybe not for others.

The carbon fiber is outstanding. Short pocket clip is a bit hard to get used to, but it does work. Smooth opening. Carries nicely. Lock-up is fine. The wave works...just like on an emerson. Havn't cut enough to wear the edge.

I am interested in the drop point version.

I am going to wait it out a bit and see if the price comes down when they are carried by online dealers.

Too many other knives I am considering right now.

Edited to add:

Check out this other thread for more information about Southern Grind:

They don't use a box to package it. Instead they come wrapped in a leather drink koozie, leather key chain and paracord bracelet.

Looks like it has open-frame/flow-through construction too.

I don't mind the 14C28N being used as the blade steel either.
