Bad news for Canadian nephews. You'll be getting busted for shipping.

For reasons unknown to me during the past year shipping costs to Canada have skyrocketed. It now costs almost as much to ship to Canada as to Hong Kong. Bottom line is we will have to start changing international shipment costs on parcels headed for Canada. I'll change the shopping site later.

Yangdu reminded that we were losing money on a recent shipment of a blem to Canada. The khukuri sold for $62. Shipping costs from Nepal to here and then to Canada amounted to about $40 leaving only $22 for the knife. Can't stay in business at that rate.

Sorry but it's not our doing. We don't set the rates we just pay them.

I had to ship some supplies from Florida to Canada recently, and was very surprised to learn that Fedex has substantially lower rates than other methods of transport.

Do you suppose that there is some design to stem international trade behind this? This is going to chuck a brick into my Ebay purchases.

Usually it would cost me US$13.50 to send a package insured 5-7 days to anywhere in the US. Prices didn't change much when more weight was added either. Seemed like I usually had to pay ~US$15.00 for shipping from the States, and then Jean Chretien and the entire Liberal caucus would rape me when the package got to my door.

Buying from the States is always frought with expenses for us. The exchange rate doesn't help much either. Why would they turn up the heat? It's not fair!:(

Free trade my @$$...

Rant off.

Is the US Postal service increasing it's rates? As suggested, Perhaps FEDEX or UPS is the way to go.

Well...sheeeit.

Pro'lly works both directions. Just when I was mullin' over buying some nifty stuff from Lee Valley too. :(
