Just bought a watch and tried to order 10 more traser lights. In the accompanying email, they said no more trasers would be shipped to the US per the NRC.

Whoa.. I bought 10 of these and gave them to friends and family. I've had one hanging from the zipper on my jacket for the past few months.

Are the Traser GlowRings safe??

True, I'm easily concerned...but better safe than sorry!

Edited text from email follows; I have followed up with a safety question to them (I obviously don't think this bit falls in the semi-protected realm of private emails):

Dear Nathan

(snip,snip)
Unfortunately, the U.S NRC has put a stop on exports of
these particular items to all U.S customers.

Thank you for your continued support.

Best regards

(Subsequent emails mde it clear that it is a lower limit on tritium content for imports... no safety issue. just our regs screwing up a good product)

Hi guys,

It could well be that the US NRC has forbidden the Traser Glowrings to be imported in the US but the reason why is completely unclear to me as we in Europe have very strict laws regarding the use of radioactive materials that are even more restrictive then the ones in the US and the Traser Glowrings are complying to ALL of these very very strict European laws.

Tritium gas (H3) is natuarly occuring in the atmosphere and the amount used in the Traser glass tubes is extremely little. Furtehrmore it is a very low powered radioactive particle that is produced when the Tritium decays and it is not even capable of penetrating a sheet of household plastic (I don't mean the perforated microwave plastic thow

)

I got an email from Roger Green when I emailed him about the possible danger (asked by the parents of our scouts) in case the Glass tube inside the Lexan Traser Glowring should break and he replied to me:

"There is absolutely no risk of harm to anyone from broken glowrings even if a few of them break at the same time.

The glowring is fully compliant with all UK regulations regarding this type of product and we have the most up to date regulations in the EEC. Please DO NOT be concerned that any harm will be caused to anyone as this is certainly NOT the case."

I just send out the surplus Glowrings that our scouting club had left to the BF that ordered them. They should arrive within the next 6-8 days

.

As a University graduate in Biology I know about radiation and it's dangers but find these Glowrings completely harmless.
I'd rather sit in a room with 50 of you guys completely clad in Glowrings then I would in a room with a couple of cigarette smokers.

So if any of you still want Glowrings drop me (us) an email and we'll see if we could get enough Glowrings together for an next order for our Scouting club.

Best scouting wishes from Holland,

Bagheera
