BAD or GW?

I had a "fatty" GW for a while, but got rid of it because the blade was too thick for me and it was too heavy to be an EDC. I also felt like the handle was just a little too short for my hands. I would really like to get a Busse for EDC though so am contemplating the GW once again.

The BADs at the company store are awesome though too. So I thought I would bring this question to the table: which would you prefer for EDC, GW or BAD? Why?

If I were to get a GW I would want to get the thinnest one out there. I believe that is .17", right? Anyone know where I can pick one of those up?

I recommend the BAD, for the reason you mentioned. The GW handle is just too danged short.

I have quite a few variations/iterations of each, and share your affinity for the EDC idea.

The .14 GW is much stouter through the tip than the BAD, and of course the BAD is much better as a pierce-and-slice tool. So it depends largely on your application.

Yes, hand size might be an issue if you have over-large mitts. I don't, and the GW suits me just fine in that respect - it's also easier to carry and conceal.

In the end, I would say you likely will want at least two knives, one more short/stout, one more svelte.

If I absolutely had to reduce all of this to one EDC knife, I'd either start with a BAD, grind off the butt and turn up the tip about 3/16" or so. Or, I'd start with a .14 GW, grind a little belly out of it and thin the blade just slightly.

Having two (or more) basic EDC-ish formats gives you a lot more flexibility, though.

Get the BAD and your pinky will be happy.

Also, the BAD is so easy to get right now, while the .14" GW is going to be much tougher to track down.

Another vote for the Bad, for the same reasons. Although another alternative is a Cultie...

Yeah, it might depend on what duty you tend to put your EDC through. The 0.14" GW will be a little stouter in the tip for heavy work, although not unbreakable, as has been proved.. The BAD will be a better choice for slicing or work needing the fine point.

and, no, you can't have my skinny Wardens. :D

There was a Krein TK-4 on the Exchange recently that was very tempting; skinny and it has some great lines.

I appreciate the feedback guys! As to the cultie...that knife doesn't do much for me. In my opinion, it looks more like a kitchen knife than an EDC.

My plan is to use a smaller knife just for day-to-day tasks. I've got bigger Busses that can take abuse with a smile on their face.

Yep. That's the deciding factor in most cases.

I like the GW handle. For tasks that require that small of a blade, you don't NEED a bigger handle. Works well for me. I like the AD too, dont' get me wrong.

I just fiddled with my GW - even if I didn't have any pinky-contact, it'd still work for what it's good for. I just like the handle shape, I guess.

I really like the AD handles. For anything resembling normal use, a BAD should hold up admirably (and if it doesn't, you have the warranty to fall back on) and I'm confident it'll out-slice any GW. Even if you plan to use it as a mini-prybar, my choice would be an AD (non-Boney) over a GW.

Both.
.14 is the thinnest warden and there's a sweet orange G-10 version on the exchange. It slices very well, I used to own it.
I love the AD handles though, just a bit longer than the GW with the same profile.
I'm looking for another AD though I'm not sure what I want. .14 - .17 is a great thickness and the BAD's are just too skinny for me.
But seriously, both. Thin GW first for GREAT edc carry, then an AD :D

 I like them both. Depending on what pants I'm wearing I EDC one or the other. For shallow pockets the GW, and for deeper pockets the AD.

For edc a Skelly Warden, .190" thick without the added bulk of any handles, mine diappears inside my waistband.

I have both a BAD and a GW (thick). I switch up between the two. I love the BAD, but if I had to choose, it would be the GW. I have big hands and don't notice the handle on the GW being small; I like the feel of GW handle. Unless your use dictates otherwise, I don't think you can beat one of the GW's for EDC. I'd like to pick up of ofthose handy Skelly Wardens.
