Hi There,

My wife and I went out for a cold weather snowshoe adventure today with our matching BADs in Riding Mountain, Mantoba. The temp was minus 36 degrees C with wind chill; minus 25 without. For me, such trips have to have some aspect of testing out skills/equipment, which usually include making a fire with materials found on the hike, using a fire steel.

Here's my BAD about to chip off some pine resin to use later in making a fire:

Some nice scenery:

I'm not sure what tracks these are... it was too big for coyote, and I'd be surprised if black bear was out around this time of year. I think it might have been cougar/mountain lion. The mitten was a size large, for perspective.

I found a standing piece of dead black poplar. The BAD did just fine with some batoning and prying to harvest some kindling (even in such very cold temps) and did a nice job on feathering some sticks:

Without much trouble, some birch bark took a spark nicely and we had some flame!

Back at the Jeep :)

And of course, since this is the Busse forum, a pic of the BAD back home and enjoying some relaxation:

Fair enough :D

That's minus 33 degrees Fahrenheit with wind chill, and minus 13 degrees without (at least according to the conversion tool I found!) :)

Either way, it felt pretty cold!

But thats those fake "degrees" they
use up there in Cananada...
Like those KM's use on their cars to make them think
they are going really really fast. :D

Indeed.

Still, minus 15 (ish) Fahrenheit is cold.

Walkabout,
Good on ya Bro!!! Looks like a fun day out in the toolys. I like those BADs as well for they are very strong for such a small package...

Man, I would rather see snow any day any time for camping vs. this rain we're getting this weekend.

-13 is FREAKIN' COLD!!!

But man is that some beautify scenery!!!

Nice BAD too... I wouldn't trade my green linen BAD for anything. :D

Thanks for sharing the pics!

.

Cold is cold,your right... ;)
Beautiful country you have up there.
Wish we had something like that within a hundred miles
(or even a few hundred KM's!) drive from here.
Thats what I get for living in Chicago.
Thanks for the pic's,always nice to see other places.
