OK, I can understand some that some names are from another language, and by an unfortunate co-incidence, evoke less-than-appetizing associations in Americans. Everyone's seen a restuarant with a name like "Princess Dong" or "Phuket".

But the menu makes it clear that "Chuck-A-Rama" has nothing to do with speakers of Hindi.

Couple questions restaurant: Isn't a buffet all you can eat?

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A couple on the Atkins Diet have a beef with a local restaurant after being booted from the buffet for eating too much meat. Isabelle Leota, 29, and her husband Sui Amaama, 26, both on the no-carb diet, were dining Tuesday at a Chuck-A-Rama in the Salt Lake City suburb of Taylorsville when the manager cut them off because they'd eaten too much roast beef.

"It's so embarrassing actually," said Leota. "We went in to have dinner, we were under the impression Chuck-A-Rama was an all you can eat establishment."

Not so, said Jack Johanson, the restaurant chain's district manager.

"We've never claimed to be an all-you-can-eat establishment," said Johanson. "Our understanding is a buffet is just a style of eating."

The general manager was carving the meat, and became concerned about having enough for other patrons, Johanson said. So when Amaama went up for his 12th slice, the manager asked Amaama to stop.

Offended by the request, the couple argued with the manager, then asked for a refund. The manager refused, and when the couple refused to leave, he called police.

"I really feel like we were discriminated against, I feel like we were treated unfairly," said Leota.

The restaurant's roast beef is cooked overnight and takes between 12 and 14 hours to cook, Johanson said. Depending on the location, a Chuck-A-Rama may have only between one and five roasts each day.

But Johanson said the manager offered plenty of other buffet items for the couple to choose from.

The couple are finishing their second week of the Atkins Diet, which requires taking in little to no carbohydrates, and they eat at Chuck-A-Rama's $8.99 buffet at least twice a week because of its convenience.

"You can just go there and just eat meat," said Leota, a mother of two.

Johanson said there's no written policy for what patrons can or can't eat, or for the size of their portions. But the restaurant reserves the right to talk to patrons if they abuse the buffet — a rare occurrence, he said.

The couple said they won't return to the restaurant.

"I don't have any desire to go there ever again," said Leota.

I suppose the name perhaps does suggest eat-till-you-puke.

And I thought "Jack-in-the-Box" sounded unappetizing.

In Italy, there are lots of Chinese restaurants, which are just about all the foreign fare excepting McDonald's, and some other types of restaurants in the larger cities like Rome or Milano. Oftentimes, the menus are written in both Italian and English, with the latter translations oftentimes as confusing as they are funny.

I remember a Chinese restaurant in Bologna offering "fried dork with fans". Needless to say, I passed...

What in the world was that couple thinking? Don't they know that eating just meet isn't good for you? Why in the work would some one go out and just eat meat?? :barf:

You can find information about the Atkins 4 phase approach on their web site Atkins Nutritionals Here is a quite from their site:

Phase 1: Induction

Restrict carbohydrate consumption to 20 grams each day, obtaining carbohydrate primarily from salad and other non-starchy vegetables.

Phase 2: Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL)

Add carbohydrate, in the form of nutrient-dense and fiber-rich foods, by increasing to 25 grams daily the first week, 30 grams daily the next week and so on until weight loss stops. Then subtract 5 grams of carbohydrate from your daily intake so that you continue sustained, moderate weight loss.

Phase 3: Pre-Maintenance

Make the transition from weight loss to weight maintenance by increasing the daily carbohydrate intake in 10-gram increments each week so long as very gradual weight loss is maintained.

Phase 4: Lifetime Maintenance

Select from a wide variety of foods while controlling carbohydrate intake to ensure weight maintenance and a sense of well-being. This lifestyle is the foundation for a lifetime of better health.

As far as strange names goes, there is an eatery in California called "El Poyo Loco" - The Crazy Chicken. Good food by the way.;)

There is a restaurant here called Cactus Jack's. The owner enjoys traveling to other states and eating in the local cafes, restaurants, diners, etc... Often he will talk them into sharing a recipe. Then he'll present the same item here on his menu under the name of the restaurant it came from...

On the menu is an item called 'Satisfied Frog Fajitas'. This is from a small town bar somewhere in New Mexico. Which happens to be across the street from the 'Horny Toad', another bar. When asked about it, the owner replied that the Horny Toad used to be his bar. But that during their divorce his exwife
got control of it. His point of view in naming his new bar was that he "would rather be a Satisfied Frog than a Horny Toad!" :D :D :D

I don't know what the Vietnamese translates to in english, but I always get a chuckle when I drive by that one in my town.
