Bad Shop Day

Did you ever break the tip off of a blade after not tempering it properly, break two drill bits, and run out of gas in the forge? In the same day? Boy I can't WAIT to get back in the shop today, it HAS to be a better day!

when i get frustrated like that i remenber to take a few deep breaths, and pay close attention! if not, i do something dumb that hurts, bleeds, etc:)

Yes, but I just leave the shop and go sit down with a fresh cup of coffee and watch a rerun or two of Little House on the Prairie.

Yep, had them days...seems the best thing is to turn out the lights, go to bed early and hope things are better tomorrow. Trouble is, I'm usually too hard headed to do that.

Sounds like the "I can get one more blade out of this belt" syndrome I usually get myself into.
Push harder - screw up a good grind - you know what I mean.

hate days like that. I try to grind as a way to releive stress after a long day, and things like that don't help.

My solutino is a trip to range. Coupla boxes of .45 to pinch web of hand(still too stubborn to get new grip safety) and then a coupla boxes slugs/magnum buckshot through autloader with the double recoil and i forget all about the bad time grinding.

Course, also tends to make right shoulder a little sore for a while, but gotta pay that price. And grinding helps loosen that back up. Gotta love those vicious circles that "make" me shoot and grind. ;)

Last week I managed to get three blades roughed out and started to do my cleaning up prior to the heat treat. I managed to hit the grinder wrong on the first one resulting in completely having to change the grind lines. Number two got the tip cooked off when I lost track of what I was doing and pressed too hard toward the tip end on a stroke.
Third blade was another total screw up as I attempted my first freehand hollow grind.
Overall, I managed to kill three in about two hours. I waited until the next morning and was able to take the first one and turn it into a really nice little neck knife while getting the feel for what I was doing back.
Hopefully it gets easier. I don't really care though. I'm too addicted to give it up.
