Bad SPA/Warranty Experience

I've always stood up for Buck and still will in many ways. I have had an unbelievable experience with the SPA/Warranty service. More than a month ago I sent in 11 knives for the SPA treatment. Out of those 11 I've had to send 4 back to be redone, scratches in the blades that weren't there when I sent them in. While those were getting redone I checked another of the 11 and found they had dished out the scales/grips at the bolsters and medallion, I contacted Jeff and he said to send it to him. I also put 3 more knives in for the SPA treatment. When I got the 4 knives back the one was repaired, the other 3 had so much polishing compound residue on them my hands looked like I was playing in a bag of charcoal. I knife neede the SPA and for the Spring to be replaced. It came back with black streaks, polishing compound, and a slice through the Micarta that wasn't there and they didn't replace the spring.

The end result is out 14 knives I've had to send 6 back due to SPA/Warranty errors. With shipping and insurance to Buck and them doing the same, I should have thrown a couple of the knives away and save us both some money...

Don

P.S. For me the worst part of this whole experience is that this was the first time I used the SPA/Warranty Services.

So sorry to hear of any bad experiences with buck ... I've always had good ones myself.

My experience this month was great. They even called me up to find out exactly what would make me happy & sent me a freebie with the returned knife.

How do you get 11 knives that need work? Did you buy them new and they were defective or have they seen some long term use? Was the spring broke or just worn?

Most of them just needed the SPA treatment and some came back with scratches on the right side of the blade which weren't there to start with, weird... There were actually 2 with spring issues a 506 which they fixed and a 110 that the spring is so weak you have to manually close it, they didn't touch it. The same 110 also has yellow G-10 (?) and it came back with a slice in the grip from another knife and has polishing compound caked on it. The other 110 was a 50th and they buffed everything so much, didn't need it, that they dished out the grips at the bolsters and medallion, which they fixed. My main issue is that I had to send knives back for the second time. Sure I didn't have to pay the 6.95 but I had to pay to ship them back again with insurance. Instead of 2 shipments I now will have 5. The SPA/Warranty service is a lot of Bucks reputation and it's disheartening that this happened especially when your knives comeback worse than when they started.

Thank You Makael, I will take you up on your offer and I really I appreciate it.

I have a box out in the garage and when I have a knife that needs the SPA/Warranty service I put them in there and when I get around to it I ship them off. So the very first time I did this was the 11.

On the whole, I was relatively happy with my SPA experience. However, I sent in a 501 that was way off center. When I got it back, the blade was ultra stiff. Sent it back again; it came back better, but still not nearly as smooth as my other 501s and 503s.

If theres no pics, then its pretty much a guarantee that a Case employee paid him to start this thread, maybe spyderc
employee:D:D

Case, Spyderco????:eek::eek::eek: SHB, I have never bad mouthed you, why me????:p:p:p:D:D:D

I only have one left to do over. I'll see If I can get some pics of it... Here's one that was already SPA'd then SPA'd again because of scratches that weren't there when I sent it in....

Seems to me you might have overwhelmed them by sending in so many at one time, no?

Hope it all works out for you. I haven't had to use the spa service but Buck looks to be a company that stands by their product.

I thought you would like that Don!:D:DHa Ha. I doubt they were overwhelmed with 11. I sent in about 80 a couple months before the 30th. I will agree that a few had some polish compound that could have been cleaned a little better. But I told myself i have to remember that I am in the minority, 99% of Bucks that go through warranty spa are users, not collectors. That is a good looking 1 liner:D

I just received 3 knives back today from the spa service. Put them in the mail on August 1st and at my door on September 1st. They did an outstanding job on all 3. The two 102’s are not as sharp as the 121 but an outstanding job on the finish. They all look brand new!

I think I got the new guy, twice on a Friday night or Monday morn......:confused::eek::eek: Sorry for the c*appy pictures... The scratches are more prominent in hand. The black, dark, areas are polishing compound that seems to be permanent.

I sent off two 110s a while ago. They arrived at Buck Warranty on January 27th and finally got in their system on August 20th and haven't heard anything else....
