Howdy all-

The SO has recently given approval to get a grinder. I'm looking at a BIII w/10" wheel but need some recommendations on suppliers. This is a bunch of money for me and I just want to feel a little more comfortable about who I'm sending the money to.

Tom M.- Did you ever get that Hardcore? About how much did it cost to ship that baby?

Thanks everyone for all the great info...

Hi Tom:

I bought mine direct from the Steve Bader Co. in N.Y. State. They are a great bunch of guys and can give you recommendations on what accessories you need at the time of purchase. I have been very pleased with my purchase and it was shipped and arrived when they said it would.

Tom,
If your heart isn't really set on a Bader, give John a call at Trugrit or call Hardcore direct. I just got one and they really made me a deal on it! They are comparably priced as the others. I got the variable speed model with a 10 inch contact wheel, flat platen assy and tool rest. What a sweet machine! Belt change out is a breeze. I cannot compare it to a Wilton or a Bader since I have never had one. I recommend that while you have the permission, get variable speed. I don't think Hardcore is shipping anything else. I am absolutely amazed at how much faster production is when it comes down to finishing. Why I didn't do it sooner, I'll never know.

Why don't you make a call to Bader (518-753-4456)and ask the source themselves? Talk to Dan or Doug, both are extremely helpful and know what they are talking about.

I ordered some accesories on Thursday and had them on Friday.

The Bader machines are second to none in terms of quality and durability. The Hardcore machine looks nice, but is it proven over years and years of service?

I don't remember what size motor the Hardcore has, but no matter what you decide on, get a 2HP motor. If you get a 1 or 1 1/2HP, you will only wish that you got the 2HP.

Gerome,

"Don't waste your money on a Bader". Care to explain your reasons?

You will NEVER, EVER "waste" time if you purchase a Bader BIII. The ease at which attachments are changed is unparalleled. The machine is simplicity and function at its' best!
The time I've "wasted" on my Bader has netted me about $10,000. Dan, Doug, and Paul are the most helpful folks you will find in any business - the service they provide is second to none!!
Bader is a FAMILY OWNED AMERICAN COMPANY! You talk with the boss, you talk with the owner, and your satisfaction is the most important thing to them!!!! Myself, Marcel or anyone else that owns a Bader can tell you experiences about the service above and beyond what any other normal company provides. You will not be dissappointed with a Bader purchase.

"Yup. Bring the guilty bastard in."

That's saying like it is Chris. I studied all the available grinders and almost bought a Burr=king. But the Bader BIII came highly recommended and I don't regret my decision. I bought the 2 H.P. and it really grinds steel. No trouble with tracking .

As a matter of fact, one of their guys was coming to Maine snowmobiling and offered to deliver the grinder to save me shipping costs. It don't get any better than this.

Hey Guys!
I wasn't trying to start a "my grinder is better than your grinder" thing here. What I was simply stating is that you can get, if you so desire, a Hard Core grinder with comparable equipment, including variable speed for about the same price that you can get a Bader with the same equipment, thats all, nothing more.

Basically, I was stating not to let the list price scare you off, they are about the same price.

You are right, it is a lot of money for any quality grinding machine on the market today, whether it is a Bader, Wilton or Hard Core and we should make sure that this is what we want before we lay down our hard earned cash. OK?

CL,

You never made the statement "dont waste yoyr time....". Your post left the decision to Tom2, and provided him with useful info. This is not about mine is better - sure I love my Bader, and I whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone, but the machine, and the people behind it, aren't deserving of a generalized statement like the one Gerome posted.

Hi guys-

Thanks for the pointers, I will give Bader a call direct.

CL- That Hardcore looks great but is just a bit more than I want to spend for now. I'm thinking that if I really get into knifemaking I'll get a variable speed as well as kick a car out of the garage in order to build a shop (Damned tract homes...Maybe if I can convince the SO to let me take half of the computer room, bust out the wall...).

Now I can skin my knuckles much faster than my 1 x 30
