Is this a good grinder? I used DDaveLarsen's grinder too much on Saturday and now I feel that I need a better grinder. How difficult would it be to make it variable speed? $1200 a decent price for it? Looks like it would accept common bader attachments? It is equipped with a Baldor 2 HP 120/208-230 single phase motor.

PS: Yes, I got Dave to start working on knives again.

You would need to upgrade the motor to make it VS. It is not that big a deal but will cost a bit. You need the motor and a VFD. That unit looks like a direct drive so you need a c-face motor. See what the frame type is and get the same one. $1200 seems about market value, a new KMG runs around $950 and you add the motor or buy one from Rob. You can find one on ebay pretty cheap. I just picked up a 5hp 3phase for $150 delivered. There are many more available there and there are VFD's there also.

Thanks. Given that info, I think I'll look into just replacing the motor on what I have now. I thought motors and VFDs were much more expensive.
