My "everyday" fixed blade for the last 20 years was a Gerber A475. I've carried it all over the continent and used it on countless hiking, hunting, and back-country camping trips. It has served me well and I could never damage it from normal use. It even survived a Mexican using it to cut drywall (without my consent or knowledge). It recently occurred to me that I am getting too sentimental about it to take it out much anymore. Thankfully this sentimentality has coincided with my personal discovery of Busse Combat Knives. I can't imagine a more perfect replacement than a Badger. Mine came in the mail today!

They have roughly the same blade length and design, but its like I was telling my friend, the Busse is so much more heavy duty. Check out the difference from the top:

Now I just have to wait for my Armoralleather.com sheath! Only a couple months left according to my info!

The first thing that popped into my mind when I hefted the Busse was 'Yeah I'm gonna need another one of these!'

Great blade!!!

Act fast if you want another. They'll be gone tomorrow.

BCS should have them in a few months though.

Yuppers,
Black G-10. Have no experience with the plastic from Busse but I love it on this particular blade. First knife I ever got G-10 on was a Kershaw Ken Onion Left-Handed Random Task. G-10 is the bomb.

G-10 and plastic are pretty different in composition.

G10: An extremely durable makeup of layers of fiberglass soaked in resin, then highly compressed and baked. Impervious to moisture or liquid and physically stable under climate change. Most commonly black, but is available in various colors, too.

G-10 used to be my favorite scale material, and I still think it's the bomb. Spyderco and Busse do G-10 the best IMO. I'm sort of partial to this micarta stuff ;) nowadays. They're both pretty indestructible.

Hey, donkeypunch, welcome to Bladeforums! And to Busse knives!

Of course, someone's going to ask, so we might as well get it out of the way. Did you actually punch the donkey, or did he punch you? :D

Guyon:
Yeah I was never too clear on what it was, I just know it works real well. :D Thanks for the link on different materials. I'll have to read up.

Nice combo mate. The black on black is sweet. I can't wait for my G10 and tan to show up.. Hope I get the CC charge soon.

I switched my order to the black G-10 because of this post. It's sweet.

I have to wait a couple more months for my sheath to come now :(
If I was to get a Spec. Ops. sheath in the meantime, which one would even fit the badger?

Thanks for the welcome. I've actually been lurking for a while, I just don't post much. As far as the whole donkeypunch subject, being how this forum seems to be particularly intersted in consuming adult beverages, I prefer to think of donkeypunch as a drink rather than any sort of physical act. :p

Spec-Ops small Combat Master (some sites say for blades up to 5.5 inches, some sites say for blades up to 6 inches) should fit it pretty well.

Here's a pic of the BATAC inside said sheath...

guyon, how much extra room is there in the bottom of the sheath? in other words, does the blade almost reach the bottom?

and i think i know what donkeypunch means.

btw cool batac! i think these look like great all around blades.

Donkey punch..thanks to your pic..I ordered the black g10 standard on mine too..thanks mate :)

It's pretty close. The sheath supposedly handles a blade up to 5.5", and there looks to be a good 1/2" of usable insert left. Some of the insert is taken up by a Chicago screw that I labelled "Release Screw" in the first photo. In the second pic, I lined up the scales with the top of the insert for a better visual of how far down the blade goes.

One cool thing about the Spec-Ops sheaths: You can remove the screw, remove the kydex insert, and modify it to your desire. I may actually trim just a little bit of the insert and/or perhaps modify one side to allow the BATAC to go another 1/8" to 3/16" further down into the sheath.

Not a perfect fit, but a pretty good one. You do get a great deal of storage space in the front pocket, which would be a little shorter if the sheath were shorter.
