Just a reminder that the Badger Knife Show is this weekend, March 22-24 in Janesville Wisconsin. Be there Saturday night for ribs at Damon's right across the parking lot. See you there!

Brian,
I have never been to the Janesville show, having recently moved from NC to MN. Can you tell us a little about the show? Are there a lot of customs? how about tacticals? Those are the two areas I am primarily interested in. I have been told it is about a 5 hour drive from here in St. Paul, and I want to make sure it is worth the drive, considering my interests. Also, are there directions posted anywhere?

Hi David -

This is the best show you'll find in this general area (IL, WI, MN, IN, MO, ?). It's put on by the Badger Knife Club, presided over by sheath maker Bob Schrap. Plenty of customs and tacticals. I consider it my "home" show. It is about the best blend of club show and "major" show that you can have. I'm sure you'll be a Badger regular for as long as you live in the area.

The hotel is cheap, and if you want to go even lower, the Microtel across the parking lot will save you about $10. A $5 membership in the Badger Knife Club gets you into the show all 3 days.

The show is at the Holiday Inn Express & Janesville Conference Center in Janesville, WI. It backs right up to I-90 at exit 171C. The street name is Wellington Place, but you'll see it from the expressway. Use Mapquest for directions, or call the club at (414)479-9765.

I'll be there Saturday and early Sunday (I'd be there from start to finish if money were better this year :( ). Hang around Bub Worrell (The walking definition of "good people"), Dale Reif, or Zaza Revishvili and you'll find me soon enough. Looking forward to seeing you, and I hope you'll be joining Danbo, myself, and anyone else for dinner Saturday.

Howdy Brian, I too am interested in going.... what are the hours till on Sat., and what time does it go from on Sun.? I work theoretically until noon on sat., and it would take me about 2 hrs-ish to get there. Will everything be "picked-over" by sunday? If I go, I certainly would be interested in seeing what ever BFC members that would be attending.
Thanks in advance, Mongo

Sorry for not posting the hours above. It's Friday 3-8, Saturday 8-5, and Sunday 9-3.

Saturday is the day for the crowds and the judgings, so it's my favorite day. A couple hours at the show, followed by ribs and beer at Damon's is definitely worth the trip, IMO (This is the 19th annual show, so Damon's is used to tables full of knives by now - Show & Tell!). A room at the Microtel goes for under $50, so staying over and driving home in the morning won't take all your knife money.
Most of the prize winning stuff is gone by Sunday, but there's always still plenty to make the Sunday drive to cheeseland worthwhile. Also the thinner crowds makes it easier to spend time chatting.

Look forward to meeting you!

Be there. If, for no other reason than to see up close, the new giant Scagel style camp bowie Kevin Cashen is bringing me. Blade is 12" of O1/L6 ladder pattern damascus with nickel silver Scagel style guard and handle of crown stag and multicolor black, red and nickel spacers around a slice of cocobolo. :)

Seriously, like Brian said, once you make it to this show, you will be a regular.

Aren't you getting a little sick of those perfect Cashen Bowies, Danbo?

Trade you my Arclite for it? Come on, you know you want it!

I never get tired of those perfect Cashen bowies! And, I am not going to trade you this bowie for the Arclite, but I WILL try to trade you something for it. ;) See ya in a couple of days!

Hi everybody, Looks like the wife will let me escape for Sunday. I hope that there will still be lot's o' stuff and some BFC-er's there. Look for me, I'll be the middle-aged white overweight guy. BWAHAHAHA!:D
Looking forward to meeting some of you mugs, Mongo

Hmm, middle aged. White, overweight. You just described 90% of the people at the show(me included). :)
