Been watching for an older Badger or Badger-E and wonder what pricing for one of those would be at present time.
Would like to see some camparison pictures of some of the older models next to say BAD or GW'S.
They seems like a great camp knife size.

Well, there is a big difference between the SHBA and the Ergo, both in price and feel. The Ergos will be a bit less expensive and generally easier to find. However, if you want the best, then I would go with the SHBA. It is harder to find, but there are at least 2 available right now in the FS forum. If I did not already have one I would be sorely tempted by them as I think they are reasonably priced. Many like the newer Badgers, but for me and many of the "old school" HOGS, an SHBA is the "Holy Grail" of the Badger line and very hard to beat.

Excellent picture comparison! Thank you very much. Perfect sized blade for what I do with it.
I'll have to look thru the FS section again because I can't find the ones you speak of.

Edit...found them, slotted vs smooth fastners and two different thicknesses...pros and cons??

I have never even held slotted before. I don't think there is much difference, but if there is, I am sure the seller could help you out. He has a lot of experience with SHBAs.

Good luck. If you decide to get one, I don't think you'll be sorry.

How the slabs are attached makes no difference. I'd get the thinner blade.

All the SHBAs were kind of porkey... and I like fat knives. :D

Why the thinner one? Just curious?

Just my .02 worth, the thinner the blade, the better the slicing and possibly field dressing some game. I have one of the .30 SHBA and I love it. Portly but a great knife  I love the older straight stuff, course I love the newer stuff too :D ;) I also have a BAE, great knife too, the straight one is my fav

Were the solid and slotted bolt SHBAs INFI or A2 ?
Pete

Both. INFI was just being introduced and there are examples of both smooth and slotted in INFI. Not common though.

For a while you could order a SHSH in either A2 OR INFI and it may have been the same with the SHBA's. I have both a SHBA and a SHSH with A2 grind lines that are INFI.

The tube fasteners are INFI and the thinnest of the bunch with the smooth the porkiest and the slotted inbetween, at least from the ones I had (12 or so).
