Just got back from Day 1 of the Badger Show!

Ran into Danbo, Double Edge Dave and Ed Gordon. Had a good time looking at Danbo's knives and chatting.

Walked around the tables several times. Makers present included Kevin Cashen, Howard Clark, Don Hanson, Matthew Lerch, Jeff Hall, Phillip Booth, Mike Zscherny, R. B. Johnson, and many more . . .

I picked up a Ray Cover Sr. slip joint and a CRK Mnandi. Very happy with both knives.

Then dinner at Damons with Danbo to finish off a great day!

I'm missing you guys-just couldn't make it up this time. Have a good show.

Ray Cover SJ !! -- tell me more. There's a nice looking green-bone Cover for sale on the forums, I'd love to hear from a new owner. Nordic also has one that's awful nice,
Thanks,
MtMike

MtMike--
The Cover folder in the For Sale section (that nifrand just bought :) ) is the same shape & style as mine, just different color scales. I think these knives are a superb deal. Great attention to details: fit & finish is impeccable, and the blade is perfectly centered with no play. The backspring is quite stiff, so the action is crisp, and it closes with a nice snap. Very slim, yet it can obviously handle some heavy duty use.

Day 2 at Badger Show:

met Mongo and two other forumites (sorry, can't remember the names now :o ). We played show & tell and I saw some nice folders by Tighe.

Pat Nihiser showed up on Sat with some beautifully designed knives; if I hadn't spent my allowance, I would have picked one up. Pat has some great new designs in the works; he will be someone to watch!

Yes, Pat Nihiser does make some very nice folders. If I had brought more money, one would have been mine. His folders are also very reasonably priced.

Friday afternoon, I made it to the show just in time to set up before people started piling in the doors. One thing I managed to do, even before I set up my table, was to visit Kevin Cashen's table. Good thing I did, because he only had 4 items on the table. One was a killer Viking sword, with multibar damascus blade. The 2 smallest items on his table were damascus hunters with stag handles. The other knife will be described in a separate thread(it was that nice!)

I immediately fell in love with one of the small knives Kevin brought, and pulled out the cash before somebody grabbed the knife out from under me. My knife is a mini bowie with about a 4" blade of 160 layer O1/L6 twist damascus, random damascus oval guard and buttcap, fancy sterling silver spacer fittings at each end of a super nice amber colored stag taper. I will attach a poor picture that I took at the show, and will attempt to take a better picture later today. This pic I am getting ready to post does not do justice to the knife.

I also picked up a very nice Chris Reeve Mnandi from DoubleEdgeDave with redwood burl inlays. It is serial #23 of only 25 made with this handle material. It resides in my right front pocket as I type this.

The only other knife I purchased at the show was a Moki Silver Feather lockback. My other funds went towards a big piece of damascus steel to play with and some ironwood and amboynia burl. Someday, I might actually finish a knife or three. ;)

It was a blast meeting with the guys at this show. Summerland went out of his way to make my visit memorable, by buying my dinner Friday. He even brought me a box of knifemaking goodies to play with. Todd762 and Wire Edge(the original) were there, scouring the scene for any sign of a Carson or Snody or Blackwood knife for sale or trade. :) It was great seeing those guys again. Missed BigWaveDave though. See you in Indy next time, Dave!

Summerland -- yep, nifrand got a goodie !!That'll teach me to goof off instead of leapin! Thanks for the info
Danbo - I love the small bowies, and that is one sweet piece! Upswept tip, understated guard, great looking stick -- just perfect. Nice find. Good looking leather too

Saturday night was BBQ night at Famous Dave's. Mongo, my Wife and I went and pigged out on some great BBQ. Mongo can really put that BBQ away! He almost ate as much and as fast as I did! ;) :)

Just to set the record straight, Danbo ate a pile of BBQ about the size of a volley ball so fast that I thought he threw it on the floor when I wasn't looking! I ate my volley-ball sized pile much slower.
This show was a great time. I scored some good stuff; I found a nice stag-handled spatula Dr. pattern slip-joint... almost a perfect match on the stag in color, thickness and texture. I also bought yet another of Danbo's collection... a very nice Craig Camerer bird & trout with a nice stag handle. I also bought a few bits of supplies to use on a couple future projects; a nice stag antler-tip, (seeing a pattern here?) and for something completely different... a couple of burgundy/black micarta slabs. I will probably have a similar knife to my B&T made for my wife because she actually liked the Camerer. I'm slowly turning her into a knife-knut!
As usual, Danbo showed up with not only 15-20 fine knives for sale, but a "bag of goodies" that was amazing. He kept pulling out gorgeous knife after knife. One notable... a sweet Fitch camp knife that was just begging to chop something, anything, in half.
This show was pretty darn good. It should be on every knife-knut's list that lives within a sane drive from Janesville Wisconsin. Just being able to see and handle knives from masters such as Kevin Cashen and Don Hanson da 3rd was a great honor. Maybe someday I'll actually be able to afford one of their's.

Thanks to all for the reports and pics - wish I coulda been there. That Cashen damascus mini-bowie looks like another superb addition to the Danbo collection (and I sure wish I had available funds to add that ivory damascus bowie Danbo posted in a separate thread to my collection :( ) Mongo - I'm pretty sure I ate more than Danbo at dinner after the Arkansas show, so I guess I can claim the oink award as between the three of us ;) Post a pic of that Camerer b&t when you have a chance.

Cheers,

Roger

Here's a pic of Mongo holding Danbo's Fitch camp knife - both look ready to chop something in half. :D (Danbo's pic)

Ya just made thousands of people puke on their keyboards... that Fitch sure is sweet though.

Okay Mongo - here's a pic that will only make people drool - that sweet little stag-handled Camerer bird and trout you were talking about:
