Went on a walking holiday about 2 weeks ago and decided to buy a 'beater'with the intention of buying a more high-end folder on my return, so, i picked up a delica on my way, i have to admit that i wasn't very fond of the knife to begin with, it took me about 5 secs to open it because i wasn't used to the hole and it came a bit stiff out of the box, but it was sharp enough and very solid.
The first dose of abuse i put it through was dropping it about 6 or 7 feet onto a wooden floor, this bet the tip, so i decided to chance it and try to straighten it again using my SAK, but i managed to break about 1mm of the tip.
The next day i was opening a can of corned beef (nouvelle cuisine or what!) when the key broke of (i can feel you guys wincing already) so i took out my tipless delica and pushed the blade down through the tin and proceeded to cut it open with the knife, i checked the edge afterwards and it was chipped quite badly in a few places.
It came to the end of my holiday and i had grown quite fond of my delica, i was on my way home when i came across a fishing shop, i went in and picked up one of those gatco guided sharpening systems and got to work on my delica on the bus! I managed to get a respectable edge and regrind the tip
But then i got home and broke it off again
in another sadistic act of abuse (used it to pry something)this time i broke off about 5mm from the edge, but i was determined to keep that knife, so i ground the broken bit into a completely useless
tanto-style edge, luckily the story does have a happy ending, my father took my delica into work and took an angle grinder to it, producing a blade that looks like it came out of the factory that way (after 30 mins with the gatco and a leather belt)
So i've decided to keep that delica as a long term edc beater.
