Badly pitted blade, what do i use?

How old? It may do more harm than good-Are you just going to use it, or are you looking to sell it/hold on to it?

There are chemical agents you can use like navy jelly. If the pitting is severe you will need to resand to get rid of the pockmarks.

it's about 60 years old, and the pitting is pretty severe. i'm starting to collect knives, so i'll hold on to this one but i won't use it. is there some special sandpaper i should use or do i just go from rough to fine with regular sandpaper?

If you sand the blade, you could ruin any value as a collector's item.
Should you decide to sand it, use wet/dry automotive sandpaper, starting with 320 grit. wrap the paper around a flat stick. Keep moving to the finer grits.
