So I was thinking about selling my Jackhammer that came with my Baer 1911. This is the only Busse I have ever owned and I am extremely impressed with it but just have no use for it and Im not one to collect. The knife is pristine, never used to cut anything - not even a piece of paper. its been sitting on a shelf for a few years (a tragedy I know).

looks like this:

Would this have any more value than a newer jackhammer? What would be a good asking price? (one recently went for 425 with a rainman sheath)

If you are not into Busse collecting and have no particular attachment to the knife, then the issue is whether the knife would bring more if sold alone or if retained and sold as part of the set if you ever decide to sell the gun. My gut feeling is the latter.

If you shoot the gun and have no intentions of selling it ever, then I see no drawback to selling the knife, although I am a collector and personally would not dream of so doing.

I would use them both if I owned them...Send me the .45, I have no use for the Jackhammer

I would defiantly keep the set together, don't break it up!
So, go shoot the 45 and beat the snot out of the Jack Hammer!

The one that sold for $425 recently was (also) a special edition Jackhammer, and the sheath it came with was top notch. They sell for around $350 each on the Bay in new condition from what I've seen. I agree with the above posts about keeping the set together, but it's really up to you. That is a beautiful Set you have there!!

If I did not want the knife I personally would sell the set and then buy a new gun. I believe the set would sell more together than the knife and gun seperately becasue of the collectability of it. You could buy a new pistol and have it ceracoated and still be ahead in money. Just my opinion and no I can't afford it.

Why did you buy the combo in the 1st place? Is there something special about the pistol that isn't available other wise?

yeah, it's essentially les baer recon that I got for a very nice price (and without having to wait a year). 1 of 150 made. Beautifully constructed and milled though im not too keen on the color. Ill probably end up getting it blued. I realize Im making collectors cringe, but like I said Im not a collector and this pistol will be used heavily. just as les intended.

I agree with the price above as that sounds about right when looking in the exchange for Jack Hammer's with various configurations. As for breaking up the set, if it will make you happy, go for it. I know I'm against the grain here, but do what you think is best. If it means getting a knife that will fit your needs, or help pay for a pistol course or off set the bluing cost, then I would say go for it. :) It's always fun changing things to suit your tastes. If I ever get one down the road, it will be changed to black for sure :D
