Long(ish) round handle for good grip and power transfer; short blade for good control.

I promised you another knife mod
Hereitgo

You know the drill by now : Buy a nice Cold Steel Ti Lite . . .
. . . then cut chunks off of it with abandon
take that thick ridge off the center line
thin the thing down to paring knife / bantam weight / Bruce Lee parameters

Then stand back and marvel at all the practical work it can do.

What blade shape will it wind up being ?
Could be anything from a shorter version of the factory spear point to . . .
wait for it . . .
a short Bowie

. . . well anyway. I think I will use it a little as is and get a feel for what this blade wants to be.

The only thing I used it to cut while brand new and in its stock blade shape was a bit of ragged fingernail and then we were off to the work shop to chuck up an abrasive cut off wheel and then a visit to the Norton 3X bench grinder wheel.

Yah it’s uuuuuuuugly but I was out of shop time and that was enough damage for now (I’m sure you’ll agree).

You know how I need this grip in my EDCs. (please forgive the white tape on my finger) This is what I love about the Ti Lite; that big flat area for my thumb and index finger with out too much height to the handle.

Well I took a bold step and cut off that quillian on top of the knife because it was getting in my way of gripping close to the blade. I kept the one on the underside. That one seems to be there to stay.

I can no longer hook it on my pants to deploy the blade but the tang sticking off the end of the knife (when closed) still allows the option of opening it by swinging the blade open with that.

Here it is edge up; the quillian is again useful for this grip as well.

Nice and strong and light but not cheep feeling.

What could be better ?
What could be better is EDCing two.

Ammo pouch

Fits two

One long blade, one short, different handles to tell them apart and the light one has the short blade.
PERFECTION !

Since this thread has spawned such a rollicking exchange I suppose I am obligated, nay perfervid to continue it . . .
How I arrived at the blade length.

My gosh just look at how that handle sits in the hand. It's enough to bring tears to the eye . . . the Mona Lisa or the David of the knife world.

THIS ^ is why I like full size Trapper handles and why I like this Ti Lite even more (the handle is MORE) more longer, more fatter, more rounded but still with flats and “edges” that one can use to orient and get traction on while rotating the handle axially in the grip.

Also why I am drawn less and less to thin slab sided modern folders.

I am unworthy, unworthy I tell you to be in the presence of such a splendiferous object let alone the care taker and dare I say coworker. I'm trembling and quaking from it all.

:o

Good looking modification.
Was that aus8 or XHP?

I got one of these in a lot a while ago and it is one of the few CS designs that I didn't care for.
It is too stabby and didn't flip well, your version looks much better.

willc,

It is aus8.
I wanted the lighter handle with texture (my other Ti Lite IV is aluminum handle with a full length blade) . . . they have a brand new version for 2017 in CTS-XHP with G10 but it seemed a shame to grind off all that nice DLC and I didn't want to spend that much right now. If I really nail this mod maybe I will do it again in the G10 CTS-XHP.

PS: I will be grinding a bunch thinner and polishing the blade some what so it will look more respectable over time.

Ground the spine from 3mm to 2mm and the area behind the edge from .030 inch (.75mm) to ~.019 inch (.4mm).

Flat ground in-between.
No photos . . . pretty ugly at this point.

Was surprisingly easy to take off the thumb stud (no loctite).
