I picked up this Bagwell at an estate sale years ago. It was in a state of knife collecting purgatory. It had sat in its sheath for ages and showed the signs of it. But it wasn't so bad it was a lost cause. I didn't want to sell it because in its condition it just wasn't going to bring what it was worth to me being an original Master Smith stamped Bagwell. Then last month I decided to let it go. In that process a gentleman on the forum gave me Mr Bagwells contact info and I am forever grateful he did. I withdrew the knife and sent it down to Texas instead. I tell you something, they don't make em like Mr Bagwelll anymore. After a hilarious and informative phone conversation he told me to send him the knife and ten bucks for return shipping and he'd hook me up. Ten bucks. To tell the truth I thought if I sent to much more than ten dollars he may be offended and tell me to f-off. He is defiantly that proud of a man. Anyway I followed his directions and he's called a couple times to inform me what he remembers about the knife and yesterday I got it back. So grateful is all I can say. Can you imagine buying something, anything secondhand, in poor condition, them contact original maker and having them ask for ten dollars to make it brand new? The knife world if full of old world craftsmen who are proud. We have all this bullshit going on in the world today and one faction telling another they have all the answers and those answers are all so watered down, one sided, and idealistic. If we made folks that could just be proud of what the do what a country we could have again.
I digress. Here's the knife. He said he only made a couple and he was going for a rifle-mans knife that the Bowie evolved from. He said at the time he belonged to a black powder long rifle club.

That's awesome man! I was tempted to buy that thing from you when you posted it. They don't make many like him (the man) any more I'm afraid.

awesome ! i am a fan of his as well. do you have his book bowies and battle blades? good stuff.

Certainly the least indemodable cutler ever, whenever I discover one of these works, the desire to run the woods awaits me ...
I was fortunate to know the greatest collector in the world of Bagwell, I touched a lot. I always have a rest in the back of the mouth ..
A great gentleman, I had the chance to touch his hand in Paris, a long time ago

Congrats!!! Keep that thing and pass it down!!! I saw the link to Mr. Bagwell's contact info on your WTT thread (thanks for posting that mb>) and decided to bite the bullet. I can second you on the phone conversation, called Mr. Bagwell yesterday and had a great conversation with him. Short story even shorter, he called back this morning and gave me my estimated wait time for a Hell's Belle. Never been so excited for a wait time measured in months in my life.

Great stuff

One of my HB’s

Nice!! The thought has occurred to me in the last few days that I may want to get on the list for a HB. We shall see. I'm know he's busy. Hell I've been trying to call for last couple days just to let him know the knife made it home and ever time I've got a second to call his phone lines been busy.

That is a nice looking knife. Did make that mirror-like polish for you? Very cool.

Yes. It's a ridiculous mirror finish. I had a hell of a time just snapping pictures because the reflection was grabbing everything in the room. In one photo you can see the car siding on my bedroom ceiling 10 feet above it.

You should post the "before" pic. Most people didn't see where it was before you sent it to him.

Sorry boys( and insistently any ladies) I was going to post some before pics of this rifleman but Christmas being as busy as the proverbial one legged man in an ass kickin contest I forgot. Here they are. Hard to tell how mangled the edge was but someone had tried to completely destroy it at some point. You'll have to zoom in to see the spots that needed his attention. I will say this, as an earlier post mentioned, if Mr Bagwell had not put such a high polish on this blade it most certainly would have been much, much worse. I was told this knife sat in its sheath, in a garage, in the humid environment that is the Arkansas Ozarks. Pretty impressive.
