does anyone know if specplus ever made a cheap version of the bagwell design bowie? any info on model numbers or pics would be great thanks.

Yes they did.
I don't have the model # etc handy but I'll try to dig up some info.
The knife was released around the time frame of the other Bowies they collaborated on.
It had the regular style Spec-Plus kraton handle and black blade coating.
If memory serves the blade was 10" or so in length. Narrow straight clip-point, fairly thin stock, 3/16" I believe.
I handled one once, pretty fast feeling in the hand!
I always meant to pick one up but never did.
The knife didn't seem to get much attention back then and wasn't around for long.
I'll try to post more info when I can.

It was the Spec-Plus version of the Helle's Belle, called the Frontiersman. It was marked ONTARIO USA on one side and SPEC-PLUS FRONTIERSMAN SP-18 on the other. I just pulled mine out of my drawer and checked. It has a two piece ballistic nylon/leather back sheath fit with a tie down plastic loop. I believe it originally came with a long flat shoe lace style tie down.

According to my tape measure the blade is ten and three quarters inches long measured from the base of the blade at the handle including a five eighths inch ricasso; three sixteenths inch stock.

The blade has the typical black coating. I guess you could call it flat ground but with the tiniest of secondary bevels. However my fingers say that it has just the slightest hollow grind to it.

Sorry I can't post a picture, no digital capabilities, but here's a link to some.
