Hello....
I am looking for a stud/button that will go on the outside of the sheath so you can wear it in your belt, Bagwell style, preventing the sheath from slipping down. Thanks!

That is a link to the generic or "Sam Browne" stud I use. You will need the special little anvil to set them with.

The Bagwell stud and other fancy studs I use are all custom made by the individual knife makers. If you have and can run a lathe you might be able to make them also. when I have them custom made by the maker I have then drilled and tapped for 8/32 screw threads so a standard Chicago screw, screw will work

Hope this helps.

Thanks Paul! I would like to get one made. Who do you use? Now I have the name. That will help enormously!

My custom studs have always been made by the maker of the knife and the request for the stud goes along with the delivery of the knife. This is generally at the request of the maker's customer. Sometimes a maker will request this type sheath from me for a very special knife and at that time I arrange for him to make the complimenting stud. These are the occasions where I request the drilling and tapping to 8/32 screw threads. This eliminates the inconsistency of the hole for the rivet attachment. I don't like making or modifying a rivet post to accommodate an odd sized hole.

There is an extreme difference in the price between a custom stud and the generic stud linked above. Like $40 t0 $60 more for the custom.

I saw Cals question in another thread and patterned this button after the one seen here @post #17 http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/607953-Bill-Bagwell-Hell-s-Belle

Mark, that looks good and it will sure work. It can be further dressed up with some file work if that is desired. Don't lose your pattern;), you'll probably get a request to make some more.

BTW what is the material you used (steel type)?

Thanks for the compliment Paul, I can make these smaller or larger and with more dome, less would be almost flat. The stem is stainless, the rest is nickel silver.
I just cut the head off of a plated 8-32 screw, tapped the back plate and hard silver soldered, but now that you mention it I'll use SS screw in the future.

I like the idea of file work, also over lay with the same or contrasting metals, similar to the method of inlay in your sheaths, also bezels with stones, many possibility, these are fun little projects.

Mark I just use a common Chicago Screw, screw which happens to be 8/32 and they are easy to obtain and no labor involved. When installed the screw is completely covered and not visible any way.

On occasion, when a larger stud is desired than the Sam Browne, I have used small drawer pulls in brass or nickle plated brass. The post or shank can be cut shorter, redrilled and tapped for the 8/32 screw. Some of these pulls are very attractive and only cost fractions of the custom studs. ---Sandy
