So I've got this old single shot Iver Johnson 12 ga. shotgun, see, and it will do anything you ought to be using a shotgun for. If the old ejector spring breaks, why you were just abusing it, trying to shoot at a faster rate of fire than it was designed for. It cost $12.36 new, and is all the shotgun my grandaddy, daddy, or I ever needed, thus by extention it is all the shotgun anyone should ever need. Nessmuck probably carried one like it, and everyone knows that all progress in things outdoor ended with him. If you paid more than $12.36 for a shotgun, you just bought into the hype and threw your money away. If you need more rounds than one, then you just don't know how to shoot. If you need more holes than it will make, then you need the proper tool, a claw hammer and a center punch. If you want more than a single shot Iver Johnson then you are just a poser who has never been further into the woods than the back yard flower bed.

Some of the posts I have read elsewhere lately about knives make just about as much sense as the above.:grumpy:

Yep, they're employing good ol' greek logic

Great Grampa shot a single shot, Grampa went for the 1100, Dad is shooting a Benelli

There's no doubt we've made progress (just wish we could be as efficient with these new tools as they were with theirs :foot:)

Of course, we all know we've made progress in just about every area --- Except the 1911, it's still the best, Mr Browning was ahead of his time... :foot: (just kidding, kinda)

The only thing thoroughly wrong with such blanket statements is the assertiveness of the authors, who apparently expect everyone and their pet to agree with them and who get utterly annoyed at the slightest hint of opposition to their holy views.

Then again, this is the Net. Unsanctioned, uncensored, no requirements or age limits. It just isn't worth arguing. If you can have an intelligent correspondence (which also includes sensible opposition) with someone, go for it. If you feel someone's a few bricks short a load, drop the subject and seek an intelligent life form to talk to.

Just my 0.02 Euro cents.

Cheers,
Rok

P.S.
To OP - I haven't noticed such claims in the Busse section of BF. Are you referring to BF in general?

Sometimes you need more than a single shot shotgun... Like a mora.:D

Geez. I feel like such a chump.

Thanks for the offer, I wouldn't think of inflicting the shame of owning such ridiculous poser-guns on anyone else.

There is something to be said for simplicity, but it is not necessarily the sole virtue to pursue with regards to life. I like things that are "elemental" in nature.

Amen, Mike! I've (also) got an old single shot I inherited, but it's a sweet 16, and you forgot to mention that if you think you need anything more powerful than a 16, you must be a citified poser compensating for other... ahem..."SHORTCOMINGS"...

 $2200 for a black tact-i-cool shotgun?!?!?

Not only tact-t-cool, but defectively designed to boot! After they get worn in to a certain point, taking off the safety can cause the gun to accidentally discharge.

But they sure look cool.

(BTW- That's twice what I paid for mine.)

Good post MikeH. It just so happens that this whole Rat/Busse thing started for me when I decided it was time to retire my grandfather's WWII Ka-Bar. Not that it wasn't still useable, but it has seen better days so to speak and I was concerned that if I used it too hard for much longer that I won't have it to pass on to my nephews. So the search began and this is where I ended up. Well, guess what. I happened to find a knife or two around here that just might happen to be a step up from what my forefathers used. And I don't think that I'll have to worry about handing down one of my users later on. They'll probably outlast me - by a few years anyway. ;)

my old single shot h@r 12 gauge got 4 deer with 4 shots last season, but then again it didn't know it was out dated, untill now! Oh well I was looking for a use for my Remington 700 in 308 anyway!!!

I like my 870 Marine Combat Magnum, thank you very much. It's shiny.

As for Iver Johnson- I had an OLD .38 short top-break revolver that was amazing- it was the only gun I've ever had where you could shoot both yourself and downrange- at the same time. The timing was so off, that part of the bullet would shear off when it hit the barrel cone, and come back in your face. I only shot that thing a couple times before I learned my lesson. I guess I still have that gun somewhere, but I'll be damned if I ever load it again.

Friends don't let friends shoot Iver Johnson.
