Bahco chopping oak. This tool will instantly cause blisters with un gloved hands. Seemed to stay in my gloved hands good with no hand stop on the end (which of course could be modded in). This is a very heavy tool to use one handed. My mini hatchet bit on long handle is a less intense.

Sharp corners really combined with the weight make this one dig into poly drum .

Awkward but somewhat doable. The edge sits out very far from the handle.

A very weathered cold steel small war hammer/pick/ (originally a spike hawk) trading handles with the bahco.

I'm not a hawk guy, but I've got to admit that's pretty cool. I may have to get one to mod myself. That one definitely has potential.

where do u get a war hammer handle? i been buying the whole set and makin short handles for the heads so i can have the long handle lol. i cant seem to find just the hammer handle.

Cold Steel's website for starters.

Yep looked there also didn't have them!

Strainge...they used to have them on there! I just went and looked myself and sure enough they're gone. I bet if you wrote them they'd be able to sort you out.

your probably correct i just score a woodlathe and am turning blanks to finish by hand so i think as long as i can find hickory Ill b set. shipping on 30" sticks is kinda high tho.

Me too. Doesn't tear up my hands. I like using it more now a lot as an axe. It's fun to work out with too. I should be going up against dead apple tree soon.

Long handle + light head (within reason) = easy user. After all, at the end of each swing you have to pick up the axe. A long handle gives you more bite per blow but if you're picking it up right below the head you're lifting less. I have a nice little 3lb pick mattock on a longer-than-normal handle that's a dream to use vs the shorter/heavier 5lb sort that's more common.
