Bail Out...Belt?

I currently work in private security and will be getting out after I graduate in the next few months. Since I will no longer be using my duty belt for my handgun, etc I was considering using it as a Bail Out set-up or as a backup to someof my kit. Has anyone else done this?

I am considering having the following on it:

FB (probably a RAT)
Flashlight
FAK
Radio
Water Bottle
Zippo
Maybe More

Any ideas, especially with pics:cool:, are appreciated.

Thanks
Dougo

I haven't done this, but it makes sense having a backup of essential kit on your person.

Depending upon the situation you find yourself in, it is possible to lose a BOB, misplace or damage items.

American Handgunner has a 1 page article on this intheir current issue - their suggestion was similar to your list with the addition of pepper spray, long HD zip ties, and some firepower with spare mags.
I'd add a pocket saw, compact fishing gear (in a flashlight holster?) and an altoids tin kit w/compass & signal mirror.

In my experience, when not used a Zippo tend to lose it's gas.

I used to keep one in my bag, but with little use, it never seemed to work fine.

For (hopefully) long term storage, I would go for a Bic or a Ronson. My pick would be the Ronson.

Splitpea lighter from Countycomm uses the same lighter fluid as a zippo but has a seal, so you don't lose any fluid. I love mine.

You can use a section of innertube over your Zippo to keep it from leaking, and the rubber is easy to peel back when you want to actually use the lighter.

Frankly, the Batbelt sounds like an interesting idea, but a discreet pouch might be better, like a sporran or possibles bag. Nice leather out there. Or, a regular fanny pack.

I've used an Eddie Bauer guide bag as a modern "possibles bag" on a couple of hikes - other than the thin strap, it worked pretty good.

My SAR bag is also my BOB and it is milsurp LBE w/ Y harness. 1 buttpack and 2 1qt canteens w/stove/cup are all I need. I will eventually add a couple more smaller pouches for convenience, not necessity. Also my primary SAR med bag is seperate from this set-up although I carry basic redundant 1st aid supplies as well.

I`ve been using a small camera case on my belt, works really well. It holds a small FAK, Victorinox Cadet, lighter, small flashlight, mini prybar, duct tape wrapped around a cut up credit cart, whistle, small sewing kit with safety pins, needle and thread, cut down pencil, paper, button compass, and 6' of 550 cord. It`s geared more towards everyday urban use.

Somebody had a good belt set up that they posted a while back. I can't remember who it was though.

Maybe search WSS for "bat belt" you'll likely find the thread.

I've thought about doing it as well (have a couple spare pistol belts) but I don't really like the aesthetics.

I have used a similar setup and find it to be useful. Too big of a kit is quite a detriment to sar. It is a pretty common mistake.

As for the original poster, I don't find duty belts to be particularly comfortable or useful. As a minimum, I'd add a shoulder harness to help carry any weight you attach.

I have a US LCE with 2 canteens, 2 3mag ammo pouches, and one first aid pouch.

I really like that setup.

If I carry anything, it's a County Comm BOB for the woods and my Timbuk2 laptop messenger bag I recently got for around town.

For anyone looking for a lightweight bag with a bit more capacity than a belt pouch, I just got a new County Comm item, the Maratac Tac Sac http://countycomm.com/lunchbag.html -- insulated inside, I'm going to make it my travel med kit.

I made one with some ammo pouches and a Bravo 1 rig. The pouches are inexpensive and versatile. Made in the USA, too.

my bowhunting kit comprises a 3l hydration pack with a 20l backback (all one unit) with an army utilty belt threaded through it instead of the dodgy waist strap that came with it.

on the belt is a 1.5l canteen along with a bunch of SLR pouches for first aid kits and the like.

i can also hang a couple of knives, a hatchet and a machete from it.

I've been playing around with one of these, Voodoo Tactical padded equipment belt. It's pretty versatile, has webbing so it'll take various attachments, and two zippered pouches too. So far I have my canteen, my knife with the survival sheath from survivalsheaths.com, throwing a maxpedition m1 on there too when it arrives.

So far the weight has been fine, but it should be able to take some shoulder straps too if need be.

edit: Oops looks like two wolves is sold out, and voodoo tactical doesn't list them anymore, so not sure if anyone is still selling them :(

2nd edit: Also forgot to mention on the inside are 3 velcro belt loops too that you can attach to your regular belt for extra support.
