As you'll know I like my daggers but on occassion I'm persuated to buy something else. One of the makers on my list for a while now is Bailey Bradshaw. A couple of weeks a go I had the opportunity to obtain an S-guard Bowie that was unfinished at the time. The information from Bailey on which I had to make my decision was as follows:
"The guard is mild steel and will be blued with gold inlay and engraving.
There will be a ferrule between the ivory and guard of either mild steel or
heat oxidized copper. The ivory will have base relief carving as is outlined
by the pencil drawing. The handle is of frame construction with copper. it
will be carved in a running leaf pattern and heat oxidized. This produces a
varigated pattern of colors from dark blue/gray to true red. It's a very
cool effect and it will keep the copper from oxidizing. The butt cap will
match the ferrule (probably copper carved in a sunburst with the same heat
treatment for color) The finial will match the guard.
The Blade is just over 10" and is clay heat treated. It has a nice and
active hamon. Forged from W-2 tool steel, and is well over 1/4" at the
spine. It will be a very nice piece, and with the heat colored copper, it will be
truly unique."
Along with it came a couple of pictures:
Today I received a picture of the finished knife and I'm very very pleased with the endresult.:thumbup:

At my request Bailey made a display stand for it and Kenny Rowe will make a sheath for this one. Pictures of the sheath will follow in due time.
I submit this one as the first entry for "Best Bowie 2008"
