hello. i am new to this site. looks like lots of good info is available here. can someone help me out concerning a knife i have. it is a skinning knife. it has a 3 3/8ths blade and a stag horn handle with 2 dark wood spacers between the brass guard and the horn. on one side of the blade it says "bailey". on the other is the number 28. it appears to be a handmade or custom knife. i bought it from a guy, who needed money, for 25 dollars. sorry, i can't post a picture of it. i would like to know anything about it that anybody can tell me. all comments/opinions are welcome. thanks...bud

Welcome to the forums. Hope you enjoy it here.

It is going to be hard to tell without a picture.
My first guess (and it is a very big one) with out any books in front of me would be Joe Bailey out of Nashville, TN.

BTW. Your signature line is fantastic! :D

thanks gus. i just went and bought one of those digital cams that hook to the comp. can you or anyone here tell me how to post a picture? i know how to take a pic and store it on my computer but i don't know how to put it on this site. if i can't put it on here i guess i could email it to you as an attachment. thanks again for all the help...bud

gus, i emailed some pics of this knife to you. my 12 year old wasn't here to show me how to do it so i may have screwed it up. hope the pics come thru ok...bud

Got a look at the pics and I do not think I have seen Joe use that mark.
Any one else got an idea.

well, gus, looks like there will be no more info showing up on this knife. thanks for all the help. if you hear anything in the future, please let me know....bud

I can't help identify the knife, but from the picture it looks lilke you got an exceptionally good deal.

The Joe Bailey in Nashville began making knives in 1988.

There was a different Joe Bailey who made knives in Gallatin, Texas, in the 1970s. I don't know his mark, but he is a candidate.

Also in Texas is Kirby C. Bailey, who began making knives in 1955. But his mark has always been K.C.B.
