Sometime recently, someone brought up this knife but for some reason I can't find the thread. I decided after reading his comments that I needed to get one and check it out for myself. I'm glad that I did, in fact I've ordered another for my brother to keep in his boat because I like it so well.

This thing has an amazingly "robust" feel to it. It has a pretty hand filling handle that I believe will work well even when your hands are covered with fish slime and gunk. The tang extends all the way through the handle, ending with a lanyard hole and appears to be about 1/2" wide. One bit of heartburn I have is with the belt clip on the sheath. I have no doubt that if I clipped that on my belt and went out fishing, that it would at some point, pop off and end up overboard. ;)

I'm impressed with this one, especially at the price of $20.80 delivered. I may just have to get the rest of the Silver Creek knives, they seem to be a great value.

Good photos Dave. The knife looks like a working tool as well. I've held one and thought it should work. DM

They work well, even when you get all bloody, the issue I have had is that they dont stay sharp while doing allot of fish cleaning. I was cleaning a half dozen or so channel cats and about half way through the knife began to get dull. By the time I was finished it was definitely dull. I guess if you stopped to sharpen it during the cleaning process it would have been fine. I have the short one and the large one. I use the short for cutting bait and the large for cleaning fish. I still like the older US made filet knives Buck made...

They want you to buy more knives so when the first one gets dull you go to the spare.

:)

Catfish of even fair size are tough on knives, I must admit. A brawny, big-boned fish.

It's interesting that the folding Versa and the Bait knife are both 420HC while the filet knives are all 420J2. The choice must have something to do with the flexability required for a filet knife.

Nope, not according to Buck.

Honestly I couldn't tell the difference if you had them side by side. I have abused the heck out of my Silver Creek fishing knife and it has held up incredibly well. I have put it away dirty and wet and left in in my tackle box for months at a time and it only had minimal surface rust. By the way I buffed the coating off cause I didn't like it.

I got the filet knife for Christmas. I do like the look and feel of it. Until this wknd I have only used it for boning or cutting meat and it's ok. I finally got to use it on some fish this wknd and do like it better for that but not sure it's going to out do my $3.00 plastic handle normark rapala. It will need some more testing.

Hi all together,

is there anybody out there who can tell me how thick the
blade from the bait knife is?

Many thanks for any answer ... ;)
