Hello, does anyone use a bait aster, I just got a new one and when you cast it tangles, I have heard you need heavier line, any recommendations on line poundage and mono or braided, also any other tips help, thanks

You just need to get the brakes set, braid also helps in not getting as many tangles.
What brand and make of reel is it

Adjust the control knob so that the spool tension stops your lure from free falling but so that the lure will move slightly if you flick the rod.
This should keep backlashes pretty low but I've fished bait cast for 30+ years and will still back lash from time to time.
Hope that helps.

I have a Black Max combo, it was my first baitcaster. I'm by no means an expert but I set mine up by backing the brakes off completely and adjusting the spool tension to where the lure/weight drops free but doesn't backlash when it hits the ground. Leave the tension knob there, turn the brakes up a few clicks and I was all set. Also make sure you're using your thumb to "throttle" the line. You'll get to where you can feel the line starting to loosen and stop a backlash before it starts.

12 lb mono ad a 1'2 ounce weight should cast nicely. Adjust it like previously stated Then its a matter of timing . Release the spool earlier than on other reels . Cast it like your trying to go straight up in the air . I use them almost exclusively . There is a learning curve but todays reels are a lot easier casting then what I learned on . Remember nice and easy and release it early .

Sidearm is easier and prevents tangles with certain leaders stinger hooks and stuff.
