hello bayani,
i am glad to see you guys did a tournament with empty hands in it. people who call themself "FMA" always say they do it all but many of them really dont. now is the time to prove you can do it all. if they are philippine martial arts and they are in the area, this is your chance to prove that you are a fighter and not a "talker". just like the bakbakan of the philippines, you guys area really doing it all i wish you luck.

i am curious to see how many "dumug" people will show up to prove how authentic this style is. with a true empty hand style of philippine marital art in new york city, there really is no need for seminars there, but you know people will still chose the seminar and the tapes over real training and real fighting.

"with a true empty hand style of philippine marital art in new york city, there really is no need for seminars there" What true empty style are you referring to?

the bakbakan style of empty hand fighting. there are a couple others. but why pass those guys for a seminar when you have real schools and real training there? for the same reason you are not going to find those guys fighting in the tournament, an easy way to get knowldge.

when i say a "true philippine empty hands style is in new york", i am saying that everyone wants to have philippine style empty hands technique. but what they usually do is learn some wingchun or silat or jujitsu and call it mano mano/kadena de mano (wingcun), kuntaw-silat (which does not exist), or dumug (jujistu). or if they are lazy and really thing people are dumb, they will just drop his sticks and swing his hands around slapping your arms and call it "empty hands arnis". pilipinos do not run around disarming everyone. when we fight with no weapon we do not say "give me a punch" then do sinawali with no stick. we punch like eveyone else, we kick, and not every technique is "defanging the snake". gunting is only a scissors movement, not limb destruction. we dont spend our days doing drills all the time.

now if you study in a philippine martial art school instead of buying video and going to seminar, you will know that. when people argue to me, they say there is so much need for these things i am against for my arts because there is no school in his town. well in new york, there is one. if you chose the video instead of a real teacher, well i feel sorry for you.

To All:

This is just a reminder of our upcoming annual tournament. Since it's inception, our event has been a venue in developing camaraderie within the FMA Community. Much of the success is attributed from the continued support of our fellow Brothers & Sisters.

We recently introduced grappling to provide some diversity as well as support the already popular submission arts. This September you will be allowed to engage from the kneeling or standing position. In order to join, participants MUST also be competing in a weapons event. PLEASE NOTE, these are non-striking matches.

Date: September 15th
Place: BAKBAKAN NAHQ in Lodi, N.J.
For more details visit: www.bakbakan.com

We look forward to seeing both old and new faces in our continued efforts to promote & propagate the "Warrior Arts of the Philippines".

Mabuhay!
