Does anyoue know how well baking laquers hold up when used on damascus to enhance color and also how well does it work in preventing corrosion ?

I need to use tool steel damascus on a project but need to make it as corrosion resistant as possable .I will be using it on both the bolsters and the blade and I don't want to compromise the pattern.
Any suggestions ?

As you know Here in Hawaii plastic rusts

Baking laquer will protect reasinably well but like any coating it is susceptable to wearing off. Why not double coat?

Polish the damascus until the softer layers are recessed a bit coat with black baking laquer, take fine sandpaper and rremove the laquer on the higher spots(hard layers) and recoat with clear to protect both layers. This gives you two coats on the most vulnerable soft layer and a clear coat on the hard layer while enhancing the colouring.

A couple of years back a knife was featured on the cover of KI with black baking enamal on the soft layers and gold plate on the hard layers using this sort of technique.

I was sitting here wondering how or even if I was going to use this little plating wand system I've had. I've just got to try that. I have some blades in Devin Thomas' Stainless Damascus that while they don't need the corrosion resistance, one or two might be made to look pretty spectacular with that approach. Gold and Ivory were just made for each other. Thanks George.
