Hi All,

I recently ordered a 15.5 inch Salyani with black micarta historical length handle and acid washed blade. One question came to my mind was how much of a balance difference is there between both. The khukuri will be used primarily for Martial Arts with a bit of light trail clearing etc.

Hey there Mate! The salyani has a POB that's closer to the handle due to the stronger distal taper, thicker spine at bolster and leaner profile. It is also lighter, making for a faster more martial arts focused blade. The Mutiny is still quite light and fast by khukuri standards and very capable as a martial arts blade but has a bit more heft, power and tip strength for outdoors work.
Take care,
Andrew and the team at Kailash

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your response. I am glad right now that I ordered the Salyani as since I have a blown shoulder and elbow, using heavier khukuri is more difficult now. Another question on the finish of the khukuri blade, the polished vs acid wash, are they more cosmetic or is one better at rust prevention than the other?

It's a difficult question- while the polished finish does the best job at stopping corrosion from getting started it also requires the most work to maintain. Acid wash and satin corrode more easily but with very little care this can be nudged into a protective patina that requires very little effort to maintain and ages well with work and time.
