Hello again:
How did the "balance" khuk come into existence? Any history behind it would be greatly appreciated.:)

I don't know how being a total new guy around here but I can tell from the one I have I love it. Feels almost weightless.

I'm interested in hearing more about this.
I plan to modify my Khuk for better balance as soon as I can get out into the shop...
Could you tell me about its balance and handling properties? Can you describe where its "sweet spot" is when chopping? How well it maneuvers dynamically compared to other blades?

Yangdu says the Balance model was created in the HI shop. It is called the "Balance" because you can put the edge slightly foreward of the cho, if I recall correcly, and the khuk will balance on your finger.

The first ones may have been made from files.

Current production Balance models are from spring steel.

I have a Balance model; one of those sold by Bill himself on his father's day of walking West. It is a small khuk, by our standards, but actually does chop a little because of the very slender waist and end heavy design. I've carried mine hiking several times. Nice blade, very lovely, good feel in hand.

In one of Uncle Bill's postings .. some time ago .. I think it must be in 1999 or the year before .. he mentioned that balance khukuri is called as "baraba khukuri".
