I've got an elk antler handled M43. I don't know how often the antler handles come along, but they are distinctive and would make a nice addition to anyone's collection.

Though I have several full size khuks that balance ahead of the cho on the edge, none have the feel and kind of 'swing' as a Balance model. The narrow waist means the weight is distributed differently. This one at two pounds should swing fast and hit hard. I have one at 28 ounces. I think just a few more would have really increased the striking power.

That's one hefty balance, yet it still has the elegant lines. It also has an anter handle to boot.

Wow, an even 2 pounds. What a nice knife and great deal. I love the curve on the karda. Munk is right, and I think the extra weight will help. I have one at 30 oz. which seems perfect to me.

As far as I'm concerned the big balance is the best all around knife HI makes. Someone snag this, you won't be sorry.

I agree. In my experience with the Ballance, the overall mass is there but it seems to induce less strain due to it's lack of gross forward weight distribution aiding controlability. And with me, that translates to less fatigue. I think it's a great design.

Tetsusaiga,
Please let us know how it handels and congrats on getting what I consider an heirloom class Kuk.

lizzardbone,
Thanks.. its really quite beautiful. I jumped on it first chance I got considering how many other DOTD that I missed out on. I guess this one makes up for it all. It really does look heirloom class. Will see how it clears customs on my end first... :D

I asked this on another thread, but no harm asking here as well. Is the HI box very conspicuous? As in does it scream "big knife inside!!!" Especially for a 18" one like this?

For orders in the U.S.(USPS Priority Mail) the box is typicaly triangular, 2-2.5 feet long by 4-5 inches tall. This is representative of the several packages Yangdu has sent me. If you are overseas, the packaging may be diferent. I would E-mail Yangdu if you feel it may be an issue. She is outstanding when it comes to working with her buyers and prety much every other aspect of her business. If you're like most of us here you will find this out through all the repeat business you will be giving HI.

If you pay Yangdu $5 extra she will disguise the box to help hide it from the eagle eyes of your significant other. :D My wife can spot a triangular box at 100 yards now and tell me the approximate cost of the contents!

heheh.. dunno if you guys will envy me for this, but after I saw this, I ran this Khuk by my wife and she said, "looks really nice, get it dear."

So I guesss I get to save $5 ... :D
