I'm interested in getting a spyderco balance, but can't look at one locally, so I have a question. How long is the grip length? In other words, the distance from the front of the choil to bottom point at the end of the handle. Also, if you have any thoughts about this model, please let me know. Thanks, and have a Merry Christmas!

The handle length is ok for a knife of its size, and more than adequate since the way you hold it is all the way choked up. It's the most sheeple-friendly knife I know, even over SAKs. The blade size is too small though, and I let mine go not long after I got it. If they made one that was 30% larger, I'd be all over it. I favored carrying my Ti Lum Chinese over it.

It is TINY. But, it is cool.

At the "center of attention."

I turned around for just a moment, and this happened:

Some thoughts that I shared previously on the Spyderco forum; hope it helps.

The CF Balance is one of those knives that I was always intrigued by, but never purchased because of size versus cost. A few weeks ago however, one came up on BF for a great price so I jumped at the chance to add one to my collection. Now that I have it I must say, it's an impressive design.

My fingers have a fairly substantial reach, yet I find the Balance extremely comfortable in hand, even in multiple grips. Many users opt to remove the clip, but I find that the indentation of the clip adds to the tactile response in hand.

The construction quality of this knife is superb, and though I'm generally not a fan of smooth scales, the diminutive size of the Balance lets your grip do the work without having to rely on high traction materials. I think it's safe to say, the same would apply to the SS version as well.

Given the dimensions of the blade you wouldn't think it to be a great cutter, but just as Mr. Schempp envisioned it excels due to the blade angle and almost overwhelming purchase, which allows for very efficient, leveraged cutting.

It's a slick, unique and utterly useful tool in a very small package that disappears in your pocket. At the very least I think it's a perfect secondary for anyone who carries a larger knife, and it serves nicely as a gents folder as well.

A few shots for perspective:

Thanks guys, the pictures help a great deal. I am looking for a small knife, I'd use it more for detail, close work. Like a fine scalpel. My current EDC is a Byrd Crow, like it quite a bit, it's actually one of my favorite, but would prefer better steel (Chinese 8Cr13MoV) and a smaller blade, yet with a liner/frame lock. I'd also consider the Leaf Storm, but having the choil on this model looks like it would fit better in the hand.

Also check out the spyderco cat or chicago. Those sound like what your looking for, and their a lot cheaper.

Anyone on the fence about one of these should just pull the trigger while they are available. I have a feeling it's going to be one of those knives that people will regret not buying when they had the chance.
