My brother asked my to make a thrower for his girlfriend. I'm not very familiar with throwing knives, and was looking for general advice on whether this seems acceptable for someone just starting. Mostly wondering if the balance is okay a bit handle heavy, or if I should try to get it as close to the center as possible. Not necessarily trying "min max" it, just generally if this seems acceptable for a starter. Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

Depends on the style of throwing she is going to be doing.

That should be fine for throwing rotational style and would work for some no-spin grips.

Some throwers prefer blade heavy, others prefer hilt heavy. Balanced knives work well with rotational throwing.

DON'T heat treat it like a standard knife.

HT for throwers should be in the high 40s to low 50s (52-53).

Throwers take a lot of stress when hitting targets and bouncing off the ground. They should have more flex to them than hunting knives.

I have 50+ throwing knives that I made out of mild steel with no HT at all. When they bend, I just bend them back straight.
