Interesting, to me at least, knife I saw. I’ve wanted a boat knife for a long time since seeing the Damascus Manson pattern boat knife from Lewis Drake. Of course their price with unknown origin of the Damascus wasn’t appealing but in looking around I found J. Roberts in Britain, respected British gun firm. What my search showed I found more interesting was the Baldock Speer knife. They didn’t have much information or additional pics there but I found a write up on it somewhere else. I went through a Rambo hollow handle knife love session when I was 10-12ish yo. This seems a step towards real world marketing for African adventurers circa 1880s. Cut a stick, shape the end and stick it in the split, spiked hollow handle and tighten it. Anyone seen one or heard of it?

Here's an old correct one, the copies Rambo it up for some reason -

Much like today, guys were having their own pet designs made, and trying to sell them to the general public. Another knife from just a bit earlier is the Shakespear knife -

Designed by Henry Shakespear, a big time English hunter and adventurer of the time.

Cool! I shall take one on my next African expedition. I always wondered what those hilt pins were for.
