OK, we have 'hawks....and several ( at least one, Chorse) have suggested a baldric carry system. I like the idea of the baldric, several actually, being an old (groan,,,old fencer) I'm thinking of getting a Patton sabre to put on a baldric as well....so where and what would you put in the pouches and what pouches would you use.......I haven't found any pouches I liked. Do you folks have any custom makers you deal with for cordura of ripstop pouches? Maybe this should be on Practical Tactical....sorry,
Thanks,
Steve

My suggestion is head over to either Special Operations Equipment (www.soegear.com) and have them make you a custom rig if you want. They guys over there are excellent and can make almost anything you can think up...I hope to have the baldric carry on my new lance hawk widened out to about 2" and then put some small pouches on there as well.
Hope this helps. I have used there gear "in the bush" and the guys here (SEALs, FrcRecon, and Snipers) swear by it.
Hope this helps...
Jess

BT...I work leather some.....I can and will try some stuff when I can replace my local Tandy who went under.....
But I thought I'd cast it the question out to those who have had to 'work' it....
I know what I'd like to have and what looks good... But I'really like to know what those folks that had to use them had to say......
BTW youwere setting up a Northeast gettogether and I lost the thread, is this real or am I disappointed again.....I hate having to go out of the country to throw my axes and carry a knife with a blade longet than 3 inches.....
And while we're on the subject, anyone have a recommendation for a small knife, cutting edge less than 3 inches that fits in a medium-sized hand......that doesn't look 'offensive', but can be?
Thanks,
Steve

oops, sorry not ax-wise, should have been on Practical-Tactical.....
But while I'm here, Andy where you been...

I'm here boys!! Been shooting, moving, and communicating... :D I think that's what they say. Anyway, I've been monitoring, but just haven't had much time to post :( which will be changing soon.

Rob at Survival Sheaths has done a few baldrics a la' Hayes Hawk for folks with VTACS and NGENS...I like that mode of carry a great deal in concealex, as the Hawk is deployed with a simple pull-down motion due to the retention properties of the material.

Our leather shoulder rig for the Rogers' Rangers series should really be named "Baldric" because that is what it is...except there, you deploy the Hawk from the top. There is a video clip of this rig in action at www.americantomahawk.com on the Media page.

I am personally a HUGE proponent of the baldric style of carry and don't think any other way is really appropriate (or at least not AS appropriate). I wore mine everyday for 77 days in the deserts and cities of Kuwait and Iraq and never once had a problem with deploying or employing the sheath and hatchet. I am actually giving my hatchet to my brother as a gift since he works for the conservation board in our home state of Iowa and I hope he will get as much use out of it as I did!

I also had Robert at Survival Sheaths make me a baldric style sheath for my lance hawk (as I have said before) and it works wonderfully.

The beautiful thing about the baldric vs every other mode of carry is the versitility as well as the modes of wear. You can wear it on either side and still deploy it quickly. You can wear it over (or under) numerous amount of clothes or gear and still deploy it quickly. It holds the hawk or hatchet securely and you can still deploy it quickly. Any way you cut it (pun intended :D), the baldric allows quick access to your already needed tool...that and it looks way cooler than any other mode of carry too!! ;)
