I am thinking about kydex and a baldric style carry for my BK9. Thinking I could carry it on my person or lash to a pack instead if I want. Thinking that the 9 is a little bigger than I want to carry on my hip. I have been trying to think of pros and cons before I invest the money in this style of sheath. Anyone have any field experience with a baldric syle carry? such as in a camping-hiking scenario? Any thought or input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Alright. I'm raising my hand. Call me stupid. But I'm not familar with baldric style carry. This is intresting to me because I to am wanting to mount a large knife to a pack. (M-18) what is this?

Kind of an old fashioned sword rig Todd, Think strap over the shoulder, with the blade on the opposite side of the one the strap is over.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...E(-others)-CARRY-OPTION-BANDOLIER-BALDRIC-NEW another.

Personally I prefer to carry Baldric style on a large enough blade, but I like it up farther, more like a shoulder holster, as long as we are talking large knife and not small sword...lol

Oh I see. Thanks for clearing that up for me Thorny.

I've carried mine in Kydex with a paracord baldric while hunting.

Pros (for me anyway):
* Easy to get it on and off - don't have to mess with your belt
* Easy to wear over however many layers you like
* Adjustable - you can carry it under your armpit, by your waist or wherever, you can also swing it around behind you if you like to get it out of the way
* Doesn't pull your pants down

Cons (for me anyway):
* If you are active (ducking under branches, bushes, etc.), the knife has a tendency to swing around and make noise / get in the way of your longbow
* Very similar to the first, while you are using the knife, the sheath tends to swing around all over the place and get in the way
* Draws a bit more slowly than a more firmly held rig
* Tends to require two hands to draw

Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the comments all, think I am gonna do a baldric set up for the 9 with Kydex, might have to talk to Godspeed, or as Capt. Airyca says, I am gonna carry it like a purse LoL.

Busheagle - I have carried all my blades, heavy & otherwise, on a baldric for 30 years or more. This can be seen in the videos we did on the BK-4.

I wouldn't carry them any other way.

Capt, that quote is going in my sig! I've thought about Baldric carry, but I usually carry on my hip with no issues.

Man, oh, man, baldric carry.

I've carried knives, and bags like that in the woods, and what I've found that works best for me, is some kind of secondary attachment to keep it from swinging around and annoying the hell outta me.

Where I usually do my thing, is in dense foliage, so ducking, climbing and hopping over downed trees is a norm. Its a PITA for me. Others, like Doc C, not so much.

I carry my 9 on my belt or in my pack, in an Azwelke sheath. Its one of the best kydex sheaths I've ever owned. The belt loop stand off is perfect.

Plus, I can't stand having something digging into my neck, that's why "neck knives" just translates to small knives for me. I can't even wear a compass on a lanyard around my neck.

It would help if you got a vest or shirt that has a shoulder loop on it, to help keep it from shifting too much.

I've tried it, I've tried to like it, but my knives are on my belt or in my bag, brother.

I made one for my 9 out of leather. It's great. The captain likes it to. But like moose says it can be a pita! They well mine fits great under my pack. I'll post pix later.

Roger that Doc and Moose and MWTIC (would like to see your pics), think I will try it for a while to see if it works for me or not. Will also try the 9 on the hip too, just figured it would be a bit large for that. Thanks to all who commented. BTW, I was also thinking about a floral kydex purse pattern to see if the Captain likes it, LoL :)

In use..

As far as : "to see if the Captain likes it", make sure you're wearing your tank top.

Baldric - the ultimate Murse! I kinda like it, never tried it, but if I do I will need something to hold it down. All of my blades over 6" have a leg tie cord, just don't like knives slapping me when on the move.
