Balis and Autos

I was just wondering if there was any real reason why people would carry a bali or auto with them, especially as an EDC, in contrast to an ordinary locking folder. I saw one review today that mentioned that balis, when opened, have no lock that could fail, and therefore pose little threat to your fingers.

as far as I can tell, people carry balis because they're fun, and autos because they can. I could also see the function of a dual action auto for someone who needs to get there knife not only open quickly, but closed quickly as well.

Most people just like to enforce a "baddass" reputation by carrying them around and scaring people with them. Though I would but a balisong if it wasnt illegal, just to play with, not to edc.

Most of the knife laws, IMHO, are of little value in stopping crime. But, they likely sounded good to some politician wanting to impress his voters
with how much he is thinking of their safety. These politicians don't care if they are taking away your freedom of choice.

For the most part I don't like laws against objects. I prefer laws against actions.

Balisongs and Auto's are just another form of one handed opening, locking knives. They are no more dangerous or quick to action than many other one hand opening knives. The only difference is perception, and perception through legislation.

Have you avec handled a bali? When opened, the blade CAN'T fold as long as you hold the knife. Way safer than a cheap liner lock.

A bali CAN lock open, just close the latch.

If I could, I would edc a bali.

Perception is the keyword. Hollywood made those knives illegal (my humble opinion).

In both pictures the latchs are not in their locked position. Although, the latch on the MT Tachyon is close to its locked position. The latch on the BM 42 is the newer spring loaded version.

Hope this isn't too many Bali pics in the General Knife section.
