what comes to mind when you think of balisongs? it could be an experience, a period in your life. a person, whatever.

for me, it's balisongs & poolskating. i used to hang with the older kids in my neighborhood when i was a kid in the 80s, and they were east coast Tony Alva fans. i watched them shred pools a couple times on hot summer days, with their wide decks & fat wheels, converse high-tops, & funky knee-pads. a couple of them flipped balis, too, since the bali-craze was going on pretty strong i guess. they didn't really help reinforce a positive image for the bali-community, though (if there even was one back then...).

let's hear 'em.
peace.

Balis remind me of the anatomy in the hand and arm. When I flip, I think about the rotation of my wrist, the limit of my tendons, and how amazing it is that my fingers move without my thinking anymore. I'm reminded of the unusual inertia one can put out with a bali, and how we can learn to create that. Balis are sort of an object based, kinesthetic-zen thing with me. :)

When I work out with the Balisong I tend to think about nothing. Just peace and a sort of release of the day-to-day rat race.

That and Vital Targets!

Seriously, a butterfly knife is a form of relaxation for me. Just fluid motions in succession.

Regards,

I think of nothingness.

I just figured out today, I flip and dont know it. I woke up this morning, flipping away walking out of my bedroom, down the hall, to my couch, and while i was watching TV. It wasnt until my POS jag finally broke and i had an empty handle in my hand that i found out i was flipping. I honestly had NO CLUE the thing was in my hand, it just flows.....scared me really. Still quite cool.

Now Im in need of a new bali, if anyone has a BM42 for sale, email me:)

The bali makes me think of the skill that goes into learning how to manipulate any kind of blade. From the two-handed swords of England to the light and deadly Japanese katana, all these blades take skill to use properly. There's just something about watching the fluid moves of a sword or knife in the hands of a master. I'm not that good with my bali, but I do intend to learn all that I can.

That's what comes to mind.

balis for me is basically just a way to kick back, to wait for something to download, or just as a passtime while watching TV.

In a way it kind of reminds me of ying & yang. While the bali is closed it is a peaceful tool hense the ying. On the other hand in a second the peaceful tool turns into a weapon of self defense yang. That is what the bali reminds me of.

ps- there is one more thing it reminds me of.  "OUCH"

It reminds me of a time when an older foreign kid in my school who first introduced me to a Balisong Butterfly. He could do some pretty basic but cool openings and closes. Needless to say I was so impressed!!

So I swapped it off him for this cool Wrist Watch I had at the time, which I swapped off someone else  (kinda a swapping crase going on in school then) but unfortunatly I got caught with it in school (someone told on me :() and I got it taken off me.

But still to this very day that missing part hasn't left me... the feel of the knife in my hand, the look and shine of it, the fluid quick movement, the whole Balisong obsession never left me :)

I searched high and low for one (I didn't even know what it was called at first) but now I finarly own my very own Balisong and me is happy!! :) :)
