Balisong Award?

Is there any balisong award in any of the BLADE magazine shows? If there is can someone tell me the issue? If there isn't we should write letters and ask that a category be created for flipping freaks.

The BM43 was BM's entry for "Most innovative new folding knife" this year. Unfortunately, Blade Magazine has a very strong anti-balisong bias.

Yeah i can understand how threatening a reader might find a balisong, and would prefer to relax and look at some 12 foot long machetes with blood stains on them

I was thinking that if blade magazine made some kind of category exclusively for balisongs, the first few prizes will probably go to bm or some other predictable maker, but eventually it might stimulate the industry a bit more. Lower prices from a bit more competition would never kill anyone.

Maybe we should start writing letters?

'Blade' magazine is the offical mouth-piece for the Knifemakers Guild. The late Ron Miller and the very much alive Walter Erickson were both long time Guild members until Bob Terzuola got on the Board of Directors. He is very much opposed to balisongs and autos, much as Chris Reeves is......... Ron and Walt both bailed out of the Guild because they were not allowed to show/sell their butterfly knives. Several other great makers, John Salley included, have quit making butterfly knives because of legal/liability concerns brought on by todays "blame the inantimate object and sue the pants off of the maker" delusions that lawyers are so eager to propagate. Looks like we'll have to make our own awards!!!

>Forget that thought D, the Big Court says UhhhUh!! Mfg'er's can NOT be held liable for misuse of anything that someone uses in a wrong way. Same holds true for firearms mfg's and of course, autos/trucks/planes etc. Recent ruling, actually reaffirming a USSC decision that was from a long time back....really pissed off the gun grabbers.

Best regards,

Phil

I understand the courts position BUT that in no way stops the media, lawyers, or anyone else that's full of sh!t from leading people on. The worst part is that the 'sheeple' believe all of this BS and go along with it, for the most part. It's too bad that a few can disrupt so many.............. :barf:

That's it!!!

And here I thought elective amputation was only for those bored with piercings and tattoos, but now I can justify my balisong collection!!!:D

I'm sorry to hear about Bob Terzuola's position on balisongs as he is a fine craftsman, and wrote a superb book on tactical folder construction. Terzuola specializes in fighters and tactical folders, yet balisongs are bad. Figure that one out. I have several of his fixed blade production models, favorites all. The obvious irony here is that many tactical buyers are into the martial arts which may often include the use of the balisong. The first knife Ernest Emerson (THE tactical folder maker) made was a balisong.
Which knife is the deadliest? In my house that would be my ten inch blade L.L.Bean chef's knife.

Simple minds are simply lead.
Lucky for me I've never had a big problem here. To many hunters and stuff who all carry bowies and machetes.
