Guys! can you do open, close, flip and twirl with my balisong http://www.imagestation.com/mypictures/inbox/view.html?url=http://www.zing.com/picture/p443bb5ce7b70a11cc5eb53c8f6dde728/ff5f5ded.jpg.orig.jpg&caption=3feet%20balisong&id=428444004 5

The spine looked to be thinned out like typical Filipino bali. With its huge momentum, either handle is "dangerous" side!

Anyways the pic is good!

Yes, I can and have demonstrated it in shows.

Those are always very dramatic balisongs. The nice thing about them is that once open, you can apply all of your Kali/Arnis stick techniques directly.

Unfortunately, given the size of the balisong, the motions become quite large. My little $35 video conference camera doesn't do well when trying to take video of such large motions. Someday, I'll get a better camera.

There are actually different techniques associated with these large balisongs. I was fortunate to meet a woman who showed me a few things. It's hard to find this and I fear that it might become a lost art, so I want very much to capture her and then also me on video sometime and preserve that.

Oh, and keep in mind that with a 3-10" balisong, if you get your fingers in the wrong place, you will get cut. On one of these, if you get your fingers in the wrong place, the inertia of thise very heavy blade and very heavy handles are such that your fingers will simply be cut off. I kid you not. I don't know about the one in this picture, but my big ones have very thick, broad, heavy blades, very much a folding broad-sword only with a single, sharp edge, and I am certain that a single mistake could cost you a finger.

These big ones are very heavy, as you might imagine, and you need strong arms simply to hold the thing up.

I really don't think I would use inertia to open something that big. Even a 6" Butterfly, I just use gravity to open it. Except I was just showing my wife how I open a 6" bali and I droped it on the floor right between us

She was a little bit upset about that, but I said what do you have to worry about, you have 10,000 angels to protect you. She said oh yeah and walked away. I do have two of those large Balisongs sitting in Manila, that I had them make for me, but my brother in law can not figure out a way to ship them over here. The post office will not take them. I asked Guro Grand Master Presas if it is possible to manipulate a balisong of such size. He told me it is, but only a fool would do such thing

that thing is huge! how much does it weigh???
is the blade actually made like a sword blade? because you could cut down the weight of the blade by adding in a fuller on either side.

Is it a safe way to make gravity compensate for inertia? I mean... when catching handle with opening/closing, the handle should come from down to up. If you can do it right, the handle speed will be zero at the very point of catching. IMHO drop and catch opening / closing will be the safest practice.
