Some of us buy all of our balisongs to be daily users, others buy balisongs to collect and never manipulate at all. If I had a pre pro or first pro 42 I would not hesitate at all to flip it around as if it were unnumbered, that's just me.

Do you people who buy them just to put them away plan to sell them later on when they reach a certain value??

Could someone please explain why you put them away in a case untouched (or in a couple of people's cases in bank vaults where you can't see them unless you take several trips to the bank and take pics of them, I know that there are people other than Chuck that does that) in no way am I saying that you are wrong in not using them at all, it is your knife and you can do with it as you wish, that's not me to decide.

I mean no offense to anyone who takes it as such, I'm just wondering why. Thanks

BTW, the only reasons I don't use several of my balisongs is either the handles are severely cracked and would break within a few seconds of manipulation (MGC's) or wayyyyy to weak (FHM that is disguised as a pen when closed)

Hello Balisongman,

I kinda run50/50 on the user/collector bit. Unlike Chuck of course who hase pieces to die for!

But as I grow older I keep my old beaters all the while feeding my passion for beautiful pieces in my display. I haven't any intention on selling any of my knives as they will be handed down to my foremost student, my son.

Bali is simply a passion of mine that has never faded. Probably never will as long as there is a piece out there that I might get my hands on. Lord knows that there are plenty of them.

Catch you on the flip side!

I have a large stack of beaters that I play with and even carry when I feel like it.

There are some, however, that can't be replaced and are exceptional. Take, for example, the piece currently exhibited in my "vault" page. That's one of Jody Samson's first balisongs, one of the only that he ever made the handles for. It's part of history. It needs to be preserved.

Others are to wonderful to abuse and mess up. I've had a few of those in the vault in the past too.

Finally, when I heard that Benchmade was discontinuing the Bali-Song line, I ran out and bought stacks of 'em, literally a life-time supply. Now, I'm just gonna hold on to those and eventually use 'em as trading fodder. But, as you can see in the market, any damage runs down the value of a knife really fast. So, I want to keep them pristine until I'm ready to use 'em to trade for other great balisongs.

Anyway, not all of my balisongs live in bank vaults. I have many that I play with all the time, mostly BM45s, a couple of 44s, and couple of 35s, a couple of Manila Folders, a couple of genuine China Cheapies, even a few Jags.

So Chuck broke down and bought some Jags! Funny, I remember not so long ago when you still had not touched them (I think).

To answer the question, all of mine (only a few) are users. Soon to change. I'm getting some cheapies to mod to practice things like blade ginding and making scales. They'll probably be used as proto-types untill i figure out what i like, then retired. I'm also buying a few because i like the look, but not necissarily durability or preformance (read FHM etc.).

I don't know, i guess its like baseball cards. You buy em to have, look at, and enjoy for that purpose.

And a few as actuall flippers.

Hello!

I've yet to buy any knife that wasn't a potential user, it might not be used rigt away but sooner or later it will.

Even my custom Elishewitz balisong get's carried and flipped/used some, it's a great knife. I only wish that i had more of them customs...

My knives!

I beleive that some are just hobbist. People collect all sorts of things, you name it, someone probably collects it. Take swords for instances. My father is a big fan of old japanese swords, but I don't see him going outside swinging the sword around. Or you always hear of people buying rare sports cards for enormous amounts of money. What can you really do with a card? Paintings..?. Collectors are usually people who can admire the true beauty
of something regardless of what others feel or think(such as girlfriends...hehe). I really enjoy my balisongs, somewhich I do twirl, some which I don't plan on twirling..no my Bali's aren't rare but I would like to keep them in good shape as long as I possibly can. Just imagine 10-20 years from now if you still had a NIB 45 think of how much you would admire it, as if we didn't already today....well enough rambling ..take care all
