Just wondering why nobody has made a balisong self defense pen like the Hinderer, Benchmade style pens or has someone? I know about the Spyderco Baliyos but I mean a real defensive pen, might be fun.

cuz most people ususally use a real knife or better yet a gun when they feel thier lives are endangered. Sure you can get lucky and perhpas stab someones eye in a fight with a tatical pen but your just as likely to get stabbed in the eye or worst.

Back in the 90's a company Executive edge made a pen with a swing out tanto blade, not quite a balisong also Boker-plus makes one which still may be available.

balisongs are hard to manipulate as it is, try under pressure when your life is in danger. I dont want to risk holding onto only one handle or having only finished half a twirl to get it out and ready for whatever is to come. Even with lots of practice the people of the Philippines open the bali with two hands when ready for an actual fight.

So why not a bali defensive pen? too impractical. your better off with a gun, fixed blade, or standard folder with a very, very well practiced opening, better yet. run. why risk your life? and endangerment thereof?

That's what I was kinda thinking, too. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that a pen is a viable SD tool. What would the advantage be to a bali pen that you have to flip/twirl before being able to use, opposed to an ordinary non-bali pen one that you can just use?

Im talking about it mostly as a fun pen to flip like the balyo pen not really for a defensive reason its just the spyderco one seems a little flimsy.

Make up your mind, dude! :D

The advantage would be intimidation factor, just like my tactical black, polymer-based OTF auto pen:

(also note that it is 0.7mm.. which doing the math is 1/12th as good as a 9mm)

I want it to be built like one of those pens Hinderer, surefire, etc.. Im not going to go use it for self defense basically just to kill time flipping much like people do with real balisongs

Like at work or something? I'm sure the boss will love that! :D

If its for flipping away from work...I'd just get a cheapie bali and have a blast playing with it.

Res1cue...is that thing double action?!?

It is actually. With a very reassuring "thwak". Very minimal play in either direction, and a powerful spring.

If you prefer single action, I believe there is this model:

The actuation device is located on the side, and I believe it works underwater too.
