balisong instructional videos

The stuff on Clay's site is legendary and for good reason. But, it still suffers the limitations of internet videos: low resolution, small images, and less than smooth motion. You can certainly learn a lot from Clay's site. I sure have. But some people, beginners especially, may appreciate the better quality video and larger image that's available from a VCR tape. There are several on the market. There are reviews of many of them on my site.

I remain very hopeful that a DVD will be available before to long. DVDs have better video quality and most DVD players (which are now commonly available for under $200) have excellent freeze-frame, frame advance, slow-motion forward and backward, direct access to any frame, etc., perfect for any kind of training. But, you can't make a good DVD from an old analog tape. So, just taking one of the existing tapes and "remastering" it onto a DVD won't give the quality I want. Someone will have to make a brand new recording.

DVD would be very nice. DVD-ROMs are becoming cheaper by the day, so I would think that it won’t be long until we see some DVD instructional videos, coming at the very least from individuals, with the publishing companies like Paladin to follow. I’ve been toying with the idea making a video myself, once the equipment gets into a reasonable price range. The question is, would you guys buy a good quality instructional DVD, or do you think you would stick it out with your old books, videos, and the web?

I don't see why not. Analog tapes can easily be re-mastered to NTSC levels of 480 scan lines at 24 frames per second. It's a matter of the codec used. That's decent enough quality for the America's Funniest Videos broadcasts. The image quality of an analog Hi-8mm is still pretty good.
