does anybody know if there is, and if anyone knows it id like to know it too, a kata for balisong knives or if you dont understand what i mean by kata,i routine of stances moves and techniques that one can master?

I'm having enough problems coordinating my hands, if I would coordinate the rest of my body at the same time... it would be a mess... hehe

It would be like two simultaneous katas, one "outer", with arm/leg/body movement, maybe include some kicking.. and an "inner" bali kata, at a much higher speed! Tricky! (for me at least!) 8-)

With all the talent we have here we should be able to come up with some thing.
Unfortunately my specialty is throwing weapons.

I like throwing knives, they're quiet.

In the early 80's MA tournament scene there were some who tried doing Bali katas of sorts. Not sure how traditional or nouveau they were but they would generally walk in a direction doing various bali spins and flips and maybe kick a couple of times and turn around and go in the other direction. It seemed like the use of two Balis was the norm and they were held quite high like out and above the shoulders.

Generally, I would not expect to see kata intended directly for a knife, even a bali. But it should be a simple matter to modify any emptyhand kata you know to use the knife.

Just imagine the knife in the hand for strikes. How do the strikes translate into using the blade? Punches=forward stab. Ridgehand strikes=standard grip stab or edge up slice. Knife hand strikes=reverse grip stab or standard grip slice. Palm stike=shoving the handle up someone's nose. Etc. Be creative.

To keep things simple, kicks can remain the same.

A Kata is an organized pattern of specific strikes, moves, and stances. Kata originated a long time ago (sorry, forgot the exact date) and has been used in martial arts(specifically Karate) ever since. It helps the student to learn the techniques and were originally developed and designed for possible situations in which the defender may find the kata very useful.(multiple attackers, all sides, on a bridge, etc.)

Remember what Bruce Lee used to say...
Kata are crystalisation of a style. You have to find your own way, your own moves, to make your own combinations, to make them evolved when you learn something new, and not to fix a pattern or to copy the pattern of someone else
