I just got off the phone with the attorney generals office (in MT), I asked them is it illegal to carry a balisong. Thier responce, what in the hell are balisongs. After I explained it to them they said there was nothing in the law that even adressed them. so they told me that they would be legal to carry if the blade was under 4". You could however carry them in a sheath or have a concealed weapons permit and legally carry a 5" or a 6" blade in your poket. Then I asked them if the blade meant the cutting edge or the whole blade even the unsharpened portion to the handle. They said that it did include the unsharpened portion up to the handle, becuase the law didn't state otherwise. Getting a straight answer out of these people is like pulling teeth, but it is comforting to know if you are going to be charged with a felony or a misdomenor for carrying a knife that is slower to open than a knife with a thumb stud. Of course all of us that own them are criminals just like in the movies ( I duck and cover my head when I say this). Isn't it about time we out law champagn bottles? they do open fancyer than ordinary bottles with the cork when other have a cap. And yet they can kill. If you have the patience to pound that long. All balisongs do is open fancyer, and have a bad reputation becuase of what people see on the t.v. I would like some statistics- how many people in the United States have been killed by a balisong? I garantee that the number is very very low.
