I was asked by a fellow forumite (Yahmanin) if I had ever thought about making a Bali. Well, I hadn't, but he peaked my interest and now can take the blame for me making another style of knife.

She is just a prototype so not alot of time spent in fit and finish but she works great! More amazing to me it that it is design revision #1. As opposed to the auto I made that I am finally happy with after revision #9.

Anyway, she has a 4.5 inch blade from the tip to the sharp little point guard things and is 10 inches overall when open. Titaium liners, 1095 blade and bolsters, and African Blackwood scales. No latch yet, I am still designing the spring latch. She has hidden stop pins and both pivots ride in broze bushings. Both pivots are adjustable.

Let me know what you think, and what needs improvement.

TIA-

Sean

Thanks Bruce. I think I have about covered all the bases except for those awesome pistol knives and gun axes you are making. Maybe i will have to try on of those. ;) :D ;)

Ha! I was right! A month or two ago you posted about press fitting pins and someone asked what you were doing, you said it was a secret, and I called balisong! I knew it! I missed you at the show on Saturday. I was there 9-12:30, so you were probably still in bed! ;)

You were almost right. :) When I was asking before was for press fitting a 1/4 inch ball bearing into a blade for a pivot on a flipper. Theat did not work out so well since the ball bearings have a bunch of lateral slop in them.

You did get me thinking a bit about a bali, but it took a potential customer asking if I would make one to really get me going on it.

I did not make it to the show. I had my daughter longer than expected so I ditched the idea of going to the show and saved myself the $45 in fuel and wear and tearon my truck. I will save it for the Blade Show in June. :)

Well, in the future, if you're thinking about a show, give me a call or drop an email and we can carpool and maybe save some gas $$. I'm pretty sure I'll be heading to the Chicago show in September this year, probably just for the day, although that might be a good one to drive doown to Michigan City and train in for...

That's great and good looking too!

Posted over in the bali forum yet? They'll love it.

How does it handle? For some reason, balisong guys are obsessed with flipping these things! :D
