Hey everyone,

I just ordered the 42 from 1SKS with Mike's sheath. I can do most of the openings and closing, but I would like to really know how to use it. Can anyone suggest some good videos or books for me to help progress my knowledge?

Basic function and care along with defensive use. I believe Jeff Imada made some videos, but I don't know where to find them anymore.

What do you mean by most of the openings and closings?

I assume you haven't found this site yet...plenty of tips there.

Good luck, and may, uh, your cuts be few and your tendons prosper!

I'm a fan of Scott Brennan and David Miller's 3-part video series, "Mastering the Balisong". These cover openings and closings, a bit of general care, etc., and a lot of combatives. These are available from Panther Productions. They've doubtlessly got a website. Just search for it. Jeff Imada's video is mostly fancy opening and closing techniques. It can be had from Amazon.com.

But, when it comes to bladed combatives, I can not stress enough how important it is to get personal instruction from a qualified instructor. No matter how good the teacher in a video tape is, he can not see what you are doing and correct you. Most techniques must be adjusted depending on your body and your personal approach. Even if you can perfectly copy what the video shows, you may still not be right. Also, by attending a class, you will get a chance to practice and perfect what you're learning on real opponents and on multiple real opponents, some bigger than you, some smaller, some stronger, some weaker, etc. There's a whole other section of forums here on bladeforums about combative use of knives.
