Balisong vs. Tachyon

I have yet to see a tachyon in person and would like to know how it compares to a Benchmade balisong. Which is Faster, which is stronger, or at least wich has better build quality and durability?:D

Most will probably consider the Tachyon to be the best production balisong. However, the BM 42 series gets lots of "positive press" as well--and well deserved.;)

Faster: same given optimum pivot adjustment.
Stronger: edge to the Tachyon for stronger tang pins.
Build quality: Tachyon. But that's more to the Tachyon's sandwich construction, than to BM's channel construction.

You left out one:

Smoother: Tachyon. Same reasons as build quality.

Looks like the "Tachyon" has it ;
Benchmade's been around with "butterfly"'s since I can recall, but the "King of the Mountain" can
ALWAYS be "pushed off" ( and later )
can push the "new" king back off as WELL! I say, go for the "Tachyon" for the moment, until Benchmade reciprocate(s) with a "like""improved product".

Because.....

"It don't mean a thing ( if it ain't
got that SWING!)!;)

AET;)

Ah, hate to break it to ya, but the "King" is out of production. The replacement is a bit lacking with the aluminum handles. And those Boss's are out yet. But at a $29.99 MSRP, and a $20 street price, I don't expect it to be challanging the throne any time soon.

Are there any other companies that machine their frames instead of casting them?
Well, that eliminated the Cheetah's and the SWAT Tigers, as both have cast handles, even though they are sandwich construction. I'm not 100% positive on the handle slabs of the Dragonfly either. So that leaves the new Typhoon from Knifekits.com, and those special issued bali's from BM with a -0X number behind them.

The Roton Monarch has machined steel handles and Cold Steel's Arc Angel has machined Ti handles.

The tachyon is definitely a higher tech, higher precision knife. But for whatever reason, maybe just familiarity, I still prefer flipping the bm4x's. The handles are slightly longer and the rounded countersunk holes just give it a better grip.

I have both the BM42 and the Tachyon seen here:

I'm not the Forum pro on balisongs, but I'll give my opinion of these two knives. You asked specifically about strength and speed. I'd think both their strength to be similar, as I would their speed. It would likely only be at maximum performance that one would out perform the other.

As mentioned above, though, is the smoothness of the Tachyon which is quite noticeable! The Tachyon has mastered the "fit-and-finish"; making a knife that is perfectly free to move and fling around (no drag), but has no slop in the pivots. It is certainly a better quality piece than both my BM42s by considerable margins (and I don't consider the BMs to be of poor quality in the least!).

It's indeed "refreshing" to see a
maker of knives, owning & making
comentary on the "other(s)" knive's
( NOT disparingly mind!;)) which in
this case are "butterfly" knives. Also of worthy mention is that Ron
has not made comentary as to their
"legalitimitecy". This is ONE FINE knife
manufacturer who(m) has won my RESPECT ( meaning they/he ) have attained to the "Honor" afterwhich
RESPECT follows none-to-soon;) SOG can expect a "Hell of alot more"
business fom Thou than can Spyderco. Ron has called a "spade a
spade" end subject. My next knive(s)
will ( for the MOST part ) be SOG.

AET;)
